I wanted to take some of my silhouette and negative space building forward a notch. The ancient civilization category gave me the perfect opportunity to try my hand at some traditional Chinese paper-cut work, in Lego.

Quoting Tim W. Beautifully done! I'm surprised you only got a couple of 5s instead of all 5s. Good luck!
Thanks for saying, I think Luke and Ian were just giving something to aim for :) , gotta love those guys. But seriously I could see where Luke was coming from in his critique.

Quoting Lando L. Jackson Really fantastic! The amount of negative-space detail you achieved is astounding.
It was the negative space I was going for this time. Sort of like my Owl and the Pussycat build from last year, but super-refined.

Quoting gid617 (Kai NRG) Fantastic job, I particularly like the use of white space to achieve shirt/belt/pant detailing and the tassels on the swords make for a great touch! Also great work getting the facial expression!
The face was by far the hardest part.

Quoting LukeClarenceVan The Revanchist A very expressive piece. I think that the raised arm and the head are a little bit shy of perfection though, so I'll say 4 points.
Oooh Luke, I'm going to have to try harder to impress you. Next time, next time! ;)

Quoting P. Andrei Excellent, I just knew you'd do this category. I've been considering building something in your style for this, not sure I can pull it off or have enough black parts though.
I always hoped you'd do a film noir piece in silhouette. I think you could create something pretty special.

Quoting matt rowntRee David do a silhouette of an ancient art style? Who woulda thunk it?!? XD All the detail is wonderful! The tassels, the scaled armor, even blade serrations, it's all there in silhouette. Your take on the cultural iconography is a perfect representation of the paper cut style. It's deceptively large as well. Outstanding!
Yep, he's big - it wasn't pretty when he fell over.

Quoting David Roberts That is superb! I love the angles around his eyes. It's also quite a big build, when you look at it closely. His arm is attach by just one stud: does he stand up or lie on a white background? Great work and yes, definitely a notch up from the previous, excellent silhouettes.
He stands all by himself. Impressive I know! I'll send you the original photo.
