Dire Straits - A Collection of Albums
My tribute to one of my other favorite bands: Dire Straits
About this creation

Summary

Introduction

Dire Straits is the biggest and best band of the eighties. Formed 1977 by Mark Knopfler, his brother David, John Issley and Pick Withers, it was in term of commercial success the world's most successful, with album sales over 120 Mio.
Dire Straits was a roots-rock and blues band. The lead guitarist & singer, Mark Knopfler, is a great guitarist; playing very rapidly, and never with a pick. On stage, he's a very calm person. That's why he's called "The calm man of Rock'n Roll".
The group was dissolved in 1995. Knopfler continued a solo carrier and is regulary on concert in Europe and the USA.

Communiqué

Second album of the band. It's very bluesy; that's why I like it.

  • My song suggestion: 'Once Upon A Time In The West'

  • Famous songs: 'Lady Writer', 'Communique'

Lego Cover - Dire Straits - Communiqué

Love Over Gold

Fourth album of the group. It's considered as the best album in term of quality. And I totally agree.

  • My song suggestion: 'Private Investigation'

  • Famous songs: 'Telegraph Road', 'Private Investigation'

Lego Cover - Dire Straits - Love Over Gold

NB: to see the effect of this album cover, let's reduce my lego creation:

Lego Cover - Dire Straits - Love Over Gold

Brother In Arms

It's the most successful album of them all. Only 30 million has been sold in the world.

  • My song suggestion: 'Walf of Life'

  • Famous songs: 'Money for Nothing', 'Brother In Arms', 'Your Latest Trick', 'Walk of Life'

Lego Cover - Dire Straits - Brother in Arms

On The Night

It's a live album. I prefer this one to "Alchemy".

  • My song suggestion: 'Calling Elvis', 'Heavy Fuel'

  • Famous songs: Live, so all the best songs are included!

About the creations

I've used a lot of different techniques here.
'Communiqué' is entirely brick build.
For 'Love Over Gold', I used the real cover and reduced it to 30x30 pixels. With a 30x30 LDD construction using only 1x1 pieces, and by copying the colours, the cover came out.
'Brother in Arms' is only a Lego guitar I injected into the real cover.
'On The Night' is brick build as well.

Thanks for watching!

Quoting eric s My pleasure! What I meant was, maybe the satellite towers in the background could be a miniature version of the one in the foreground. Or out of focus somehow. I'm not good with photography though - if you get a chance, try searching images for "forced perspective". It's kinda like, if I close one eye, and with my fore finger and thumb I "pretend to grab" a car that's _physically_ 50 meters away as if it was a toy. At that far away (in my one eye) it looks small enough to grab and hold! In other words, an optical illusion (sorry for my long-winded response xD)
Ah yes ok I see what you mean. But I didn't want to cheat on this album cover using photoshop. Even if it looks better with ;-) I'll do my best in the future ;-)

Quoting Gabor Horvath Great job! The telescopes are very cool. Most of these songs are unknown for me because I'm not so old. So thanks you for draw my attention to these great songs! :)

Thanks Nick!
Quoting Nick Barrett I don't understand why Dire Straits are not remembered as much as other, inferior '80s bands. Their day will come again.
I hope it will!

Quoting Firas Abu-Jaber You always give us a different kind of mocs, which we don't used to see everyday, that guitar looks fenomenal, and great presentation as usual. Very well done.

Wow Per thanks a lot for that! "Making Movies" has some great songs on it; but sadly, the cover was way to easy. Sorry for that ;-)

Quoting Nils O. Very cool, I especially like the "Brothers in Arms" and "On the Night" covers! Great job! - P.S.: I can't agree with you about the live albums. ;-)) There are some masterpieces on "Alchemy": The solo from "Sultans of Swing" on the album is my absolute favourite and the theme from "Local Hero" is just beautiful. Of course, Brothers in Arms" and "On Every Street" have been released later, so the songs from these albums aren't on "Alchemy". But for me, Mark Knopfler has never been better (on a CD) than on this one... And by the way, the "Best of" album "Money for Nothing" has a great cover, too ;-))
Vielen dank für den netten Kommentar! Alchemy is a masterpiece, I agree totally. But listen to the two first songs of "On The Night". Especially the first one, Calling Elvis. It's my absolute favorite. The solo (guitar, lap steel, drums & percussions) is mind blowing! It's may be just because of that I prefer 'On the Night'. ;-) BTW vielleicht hast du das auch schon gehört : Knopfler spielt in mehreren Deutschen Städten diesen Sommer (Mannheim, Stuttgart, usw). Ich werde probieren, noch Plätze zu bekommen. Nur als Info ;-)

Quoting Matt Bace Great set of builds! I love them all. For some reason, Dire Straits never seems to get the recognition they deserve when folks reminisce about the great bands from the past.
Maybe when folks reminisce about the great bands from the past, there think more about 70s rock and hard rock bands like the Stones and Zep. Thanks for commenting!

Quoting Henrik Jensen Your album covers are really good! I myself am a big fan of Dire Straits, but particularly Mark Knopfler. I like the "Brothers in arms" and "On the night" covers the best, very fine guitar and the satelitdishes are excellent. Musically "Brothers in arms" is my favorite D.S.-CD. Mark Knopler is also excellent solo, "Get Lucky" is recommended if you like relaxing music.
Thanks Henrik! I totally agree with all what you said ;-)
