Bricks in Motion
About this creation
Here are my builds for Bricks in Motion at Milestones Museum, Basingstoke, England. I built the vehicles and others in the team built the scenes and figures.

The show is the brain child of Ed Diment of Bright Bricks. We have produced 121 Lego models in total depicting the history of transport, from the earliest man made vehicles to theoretical space crafts that travel faster than light. If you live in the area I urge you to visit the museum for a great day out.

Many builders contributed but I have not photographed their work. I will leave that for them to do but a list of contributors is as follows:

Bright Bricks contributors include:

Ed Diment
Rhys Knight
Bryn Morgan
Jordan
Matt
Snowy
Rhian Davis

Associated builders include:

Nick Barrett
Ralph S
Tom Poulsom
James Pegrum

Apologies for the poor quality of the some of the photos, the lighting is challenging and the models are behind perspex boxes.

Zeppelin (Z1)
3.2 metres long, Minifig scale (1:40). The first lighter than air powered craft designed by Count Ferdinand Von Zeppelin in 1899.

Juno space probe.
Fastest man made object, currently travelling at 87,000 mph toward Jupiter

SS Great Britain.
2.5 metres long, Minifig scale (1:40). Designed by the great Isambard Kingdom Brunel and launched in 1843. Iron hull, steam powered, screw propeller, considered to be the forerunner to all modern ocean-going ships.

This was a collaboration with Bryn who designed the basic hull shape on Brick Builder software (1 day) and Rhian who built the hull (7 days). I added the fine details to the hull and the complete deck (3 days).

Chinese Junk.
50cms long. Minifig scale (1:40). Ancient sailing vessel so versatile the design is still in use today.

J Class Yacht.
1 metre long. Minifig scale (1:40). 1930s yacht used in the Americas Cup. Notice I built the hull completely upside down so I could use the 1x4 roof slopes.

Vestas 2 'Sailrocket'
Minifig scale (1:40). This holds the sailing speed record, with a peak speed of 78.26 mph.

Ice Yacht
Minifig scale (1:40). Vintage wooden ice yacht used in the 17th Century

McCormick Farmall tractor
Miniland scale (1:20). Vintage american tractor. Working steering and spinning drive shaft.

Lamborghini Aventador (UAE Police version)
Miniland scale (1:20). Based on my red Aventador.

Hispano Suiza
Miniland scale (1:20). Luxery Spanish/Swiss car from the late 1920s.

Motorbikes
miniland scale (1:20 ish). From left to right: Vintage Triumph, BMW trail bike and a generic modern sports bike.

Trucks
Miniland scale (1:20). Vintage Layland Beaver and a modern Volvo Globetrotter. Both hav opening features and the Volvo has working steering and tilting cab.

History of Formula 1
Miniland scale (1:20)

Mercedes W05 Hybrid.
2014 championship winning car driven by Lewis Hamilton

Ferrari F2002
2002 and 2003 championship winning car driven by Michael Schumacher. Get well soon Michael!

McLaren MP4/4
1988 Championship winning car driven by Arton Senna.

Lotus 72
1972 Championship winning car driven by Emerson Fittipaldi

Maserati 250F
1954 Championship winning car driven by Juan Manuel Fangio

Hope you like them.

Personally my favourite is the Chinese Junk. Also like the J-Class yacht, tractor and the McLaren MP4/4. Believe it or not the Formula 1 cars and motorbikes were a challenge at Miniland scale.

Awesome creations! If you have a Lego Ideas account would you mind supporting my Star Wars UT-AT by mamavause. If it gets 10,000 supporters it goes to a lego review. If it passes the review it becomes an official Lego set! Here is the link: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/99430

Quoting Senator Chinchilla . My word! It just never stops. So many cars... so many boats! So many zeppelins! Or maybe just the one, but it's freakin' huge so I'm counting it as 7 until Parliament tells me otherwise. These are ace, Mortal.

Quoting matt rowntRee Whooooopie, A ZEPPLIN!!! XD Holy cow, Joe! This is an incredible display! I do however have to admit that I was instantly drawn to the real tractor in the background of the yacht pics. It's in my DNA. ;) This looks like it is well beyond crazy cool in an equally awesome venue. Outstanding!
Thanks Mate. You would love this place it is like stepping back in time to a bygone era - loads of vintage trucks, motorbikes, trams cranes... you name it. Thanks again matt

Thanks Matt. The J Class was an unusual one, I had to build it upside down using the 1x4 slopes. Really appreciate your comments especially as you are a fantastic ship builder. I have often spoken about you and your builds with my Boss - Ed Diment, check out the link above to his work. Joe

Quoting Topsy Creatori Being part of a museum display, I'm sure each of these had their fans whose interest was sparked! My interest was sparked by the Juno, the ice yacht, Vestas 2, and of cousre, that blimp! Thanks for the sparks! :)
Thanks Topsy, I purposely chose a wide range of vehicles as I like to work outside my comfort zone, but I couldn't resist the F1 cars :). Glad to hear you have taken some inspiration from the slightly more unusual ones.

Quoting Starscream Soundwave An amazing collection of incredibly good builds. Serious respect to you, Nick, Ralph, and everyone else! Of course I love all the cars, but the most impressive to me is that Zeppelin - I don't think I've got any words for it!
Thanks SS, the cars are mere sketches compared to the airship but all were a lot of fun to build

Quoting Clayton Marchetti Truly Awe inspiring builds! I love the boats, especially the Chinese Junk and the yacht! I love the use of the curved slopes on the Junk. That must have cost a small fortune. The Yacht is gorgeous. How did you keep the horizontal spare from sagging! The cabin is beautifully built too. That Zeppelin is most impressive. I love how the front was built. Awesome techniques! Those motorcycles by the way are brilliant! Everything is brilliant!
Thanks Clayton. Yeah the boats are my fave too. The hulls on the 3 large ships are all different - the J Class built with traditional slopes but upside down, the Junk with bows upside down and sideways and finally the SS Great Britain with good old fashioned bricks in system style. The airship is completely bonkers - 16 sided geometry XD

Quoting David Roberts I think that the boats are my favourite. The brick-built curves of the Great Britain are great and the sleek lines of the yacht's hull are wonderful. The airship is great. Very impressive in scale too. My latest airship is a lot smaller and only in LDD but it does has Space Firemen! Thank you for sharing more of this fascinating exhibition.
Thanks David. The yachts where the most challenging - those curves almost drove me mad. The J Class yacht hull is built with the studs facing down XD. I will check yours out soon
