Jean-Louis Schlesser SAUBER MERCEDES C9
Jean-Louis Schlesser, born at Nancy (France) in 1946, is a French car driver. Nephew of Jo Schlesser, one of the most popular french driver in the 60's, Jean-Louis Schlesser enter car competition world a little time after the tragic death of his uncle during F1 French GP at Rouen-Les-Essarts aboard the magnesium made of Honda RA302). French champion of F3 in 1978 (ex-aequo with Alain Prost), he swaps for Formula 2 in 1982. From 1982 to 1988, he is test driver for Williams. In 1983, he finishes 6th at the race of champion at Brands Hatch, a out of championship F1 Gp. In 1984 and 1985, he is champion of France of "Voitures de production", the french touring car championship. In 1988, he enters the sportscar competition and becomes champion of Germany in Group C. The same year, he replaces Nigel Mansell aboard his Williams for the Gp of Italy. An incident with Ayrton Senna's Mclaren will give the victory to Ferrari, preventing Mclaren to win ALL the race of this 1988 season. In 1989, he becomes full time driver for Sauber in World Sportscar Championship . He wins the 1989 and 1990 Titles, aboard the C9 and C11 Sauber. After the end of the glorious times of the group c, Jean-Louis Schlesser will race in rally raid with a lot of success: World Champion in 2WD category from 1993 to 2005, Wolrd Champion in all Categories from 1998 to 2002. Enjoy, and thanks for your comments and ratings along these 24 big scale lego car journey. It Was a pleasure. And, as the Terminator said in 1984: i'll be back :D
About this creation
Now, the car: The Sauber C9 was introduced by the Sauber team in 1987 for the WSC championship and German Supercup. At this time, the car was named KOUROS C9 as the Sauber team was sponsorised by french fragrance Kouros, from Yves Saint Laurent. At first, the C9 was not very successfull but Mercedes, who provided the production M117 Biturbo engine, was very interested in an official return in endurance racing through Sauber structure. Renamed Sauber Mercedes C9 in 1988, in a stunning black livery, the car was more efficent but Sauber decided to not enter the 24 heures du Mans because of concerns about michelin tyres/chassis combo. The year after, Mercedes provided an updated DOHC engine, the M119...The car livery turned Silver: the Silver Arrow, as were called old racing Mercedes, was back. This year 1989, the trio Jochen Mass/Manuel Reuter/Stanley Dickens won Les 24 heures du Mans and Jean-Louis Schlesser became World Champion in WSC. This was a very fast car, performing 398 km/h in the "ligne droite des Hunaudičres" (incorrectly names "Mulsanne staight" in english). With its biturbo V8, its splendid look in every livery but especially in silver, its 800 Bhp output, the epic times of group C category where it evolved, the Sauber C9 became an iconic car. If car racing was a video-game, it could be the final Boss....Wait, that's the case! Thanks to race games as Gran Turismo, this prestigious car is not near to fall in oblivion. Even little boys and girls of 2015 can meet this beast.....as i did when i was 9. Ever loved you, C9 ,and your daughter C11...you know why. And that's why i choose you to become the 24th and Final Big scale car of my board.

For this one, i've done evrything to push back the limits of what is possible to do with lego bricks at 1/8 scale. The moto was: 100% accurate.
The car features:
- V8 engine biturbo with all hoses, tubing.
- Direction
- Shocks on four wheels, absolutely NO clearance issues with the body. The only thing that is not accurate is the rear suspensions setting. Tried everything to reproduced the original bone but i would have had to alter parts and that's a big NO.
- Awesome bodywork :D :D, "Les 24 heures du Mans" 1989 configuration, Schlesser/Jabouille/Cudini version with white mirrors.
- Inner structure and rollbar reproduced
- Homemade stickers
- The more you tear apart the thing, the more details you find!

If you're looking for your wheels, they are under you.

The only thing i have not reproduced accurately is the suspensions set-up. Here, i have done a C11 set up. First it had four shocks but was "loose". Then i found the way to make a stiffer suspensions set-up with only two shocks. It made my day. :D :D :D

Turbo! The intercooler is here too but is hidden by the side fairing. Same thing on the other side as it is a twin turbo engine.

OMG, You're naked!

No GPS but a fire extinctor device. This is a men's world :D

The front end is a slightly modified version i use on my F1s. The greatest thing about it is it doesn't recquire lego suspension arms ot other wheel/suspensions lego dedicated parts. Hence, it's made of regular beams, connectors. It is highly cutomizable (suspensions positions, arm length, ride height).

Wow! Really spectacular racer, and executed in class of its own. I only knew Jean-Louis Schlesser from the Dakar rally, but now I see where his driving skills come from. Your model is really successful in every detail, and I especially like that you haven`t left a gaping hole where the windshield is, but built a well-shaped windshield as if it was tinted glass. It elegantly completes the car's exterior. And the fact that under the car body, hides a brilliantly detailed chassis and engine, makes this a true masterpiece. Excellent Work!

Oh to finish on such a gloriously high note! Greg, this is your best by far, the detail is all there but that body! WOW! The engine cover has the most elegant shaping especially going to the flat of the sides then over the tires. Just stupendous! And those doors... This is the silver arrow I remember. Just a lump of pure power and beauty. Bravo Greg, BRAVO!!! Although, Ron Dennis may still hold a grudge against Jean-Louis. XD Way beyond outstanding!

Thanks Gabor :D Just modified it. Indeed, the big mass of reading stuff is not especially nice in an aesthetic point of view. Hope the modifications makes the whole thing better.
