2015 Mocathalon: Drum
On that Note: Replicate a musical instrument as realistically as you can. It doesn't have to be 1:1 scale or playable, but the aesthetic should be as spot on as you can manage!

2015 Mocathalon.

So, what kind of Musical Instrument can be build out of Lego (in one to one scale, I insisted) in only one day? A drum.

Alternate angle.

Playing the drum.

Unfortunately, all of my photoshoots failed for this. In the daylight, you can't tell the black from the dark green. In artificial light, it just looks way too dark.

And with a yellow background, you can't tell that the top of the drum is white.

Actually playing the drum.

The inside. For the record, building a 24-sided shape is not easy. I used six hexagonal frames and stacked them with turntables.

This whole thing was a last-minute entry, built in about 4 hours, but I still enjoyed it, and I don't think I could have made a better looking drum with more time. My original plan was to include Mindstorms, but the frame I ended up using made that impossible. Still, it turned out good.
Go Cuddly Leviathans!!!

I hope you liked it!

Quoting Halhi 141 I can't help but wonder if you ever considered using 1x4/2x2 hinge plates + SNOT bricks for a much simpler structure :P
I didn't. :P I probably would have had enough of them, but the black bars would have made that design problematic...

Technically impressive, but lacking on the aesthetics. A strong 3.

I was thinking four points but that shot showing the technique behind the build sealed the deal for me. 5 points ~ Chris.
