"Talon" Heavy Interceptor
About this creation
This is my first attempt at building something that doesn't walk or crawl. I've long wanted to build something different from my usual creations, and even longer have I wanted to build something that flies, so I've been tinkering with a spaceship idea for some time.

When I first started this project, I literally had no idea where to start, and having never built anything that flies before, I was short on ideas, so I just used what little I had and put a few pieces together, surprisingly I started out pretty well, and all the engines only took me a few hours, but then when I had to put them together, and build the main body of the ship, is where I became quite stuck, for some reason I just couldn't think of anything that I liked, so I nibbled away at it, adding a piece here and there until I had something I could work with, and although I am happy with the overall finish, I am disappointed in the nose, which no matter how hard I tried, I could never get the way I wanted, so I just kind of settled for what you see in the pictures.

I am pleased with my first attempt, I did want to add a small cargo bay, but the design I ended up with just didn't have room. I'll definitely build more spaceship designs, and I'll keep improving my technique, so that I don't have to settle as much in the future.

This is also my first creation that I've rendered using POVray, and I'd like to thank Benjamin Heining for showing me how to do it. You can check out his work here and here.

So all you spaceship masters out there, let me know what you think of my first try.

The Talon interceptor is designed to get to the fight as quickly as possible, and provide heavy support, while keeping any enemies from escaping. Not being the most agile fighter, the Talon makes up for this by having excellent protection, and devastating weaponry.

Sporting dual 20mm chain guns on either side of the fuselage, as well as dual mounted Hunter missiles, which break open into twenty smaller missiles just before impact. The Talon's main weaponry, is a belly mounted plasma cannon, which can destroy smaller ships in a single blast. This weapon is best used a long range, due to it's long recharge time. To keep out of trouble in dogfights, the Talon houses two ECM launchers located behind the cockpit on either side.

Quoting JosephC 123 Wow. If I was to choose a star fighter to fly in, this would be it! Amazing job! Also, I think it would be alot more manuverable if the auxillary engines could rotate. Just an idea!
I do love a wow comment, that's some pretty high praise! I really like your idea for the rotating engines, and it's already given me an idea for my next design, thank you you genius!

Quoting Kermunklin the Giant Evil House Head That is one great ship. That POV Ray thing almost looks astonishingly real. I assume it's some kind of magic. The engines are super, and personally I like the front end...it reminds me of a bird's beak opened just ever so slightly...to eat you with! Truly a fantastic ship, my friend.
I've always thought the same thing about the POVray renders, it's magic indeed! The engines are my favorite part, for my first try, I think they're excellent. Thanks for looking!

Quoting Pico van Grootveld How I would love to see these two 'Talons' (http://mocpages.com/moc.php/398076) in battle! Good going dude, this is one fine ship. Nice overall shape and packed with details. If you're not totally satisfied with the front, how about trying the front pointing downwards a bit? Like a beak you know. Keep m comin'
It terms of design, yours blows my own of the water, or the sky I guess? This would be an awesome match up for a brawl, I'd say that mine probably had the upper hand at long distance, but I feel yours would be too much when it came to close quarters. I didn't even remember you had a project with the same name, and almost a similar colour scheme. No stealing, I swear! If I find the time, I'll give the nose a rework with your idea, Thanks Pico.
