Back in the 90's the Transformers fandom was divided in two, those who loved Beast Wars and those who wanted something more G1 (ie cars and planes). The Geewunner camp became noted for the catchphrase "truk not munky" a reference to the fact Optimus Prime (a semi-truck) had been replaced by Optimus Primal, a Gorilla.
I've always toyed with the idea of creating a Transformer that basically incorporated this debate into one design and this weekend I was reminded of that idea when I saw an actual Semi-truck outside my apartment.
My first idea was to create a truck Transformer with a Gorilla third mode, a triple changer, but so far the engineering for that is proving a little complicated, so I skipped that idea and moved to my second notion.
A robot monkey/gorilla who transforms into a truck.
The colours are deliberate to mislead you into thinking this is going to be Optimus Prime, in reality I suppose you could call this Primal Prime?
There are issues and it is a very rough doodle to get the idea into a virtual form to upload. Maybe with another hour I could have worked out the kinks a little better, certainly the legs are lacklustre and the main body is a little fragile.
The head is overtly exposed in Vehicle mode, though not as much as some of my Optimus designs.
Name - Ape Link
Faction - Autobot
Function - Warrior
Motto - I'm no monkey!
Description - Back on Cybertron Ape Link was at home swinging from power lines and launching between roof tops in his simian robot form. After arriving on Earth he adopted a truck vehicle mode and the mocking began.
Weapons - twin chest mounted cannons become smoke stacks in vehicle mode.
Weakness - Call him a monkey and he looses all reason, he's an APE damn it!
As ever comments welcome, rate if you like and please no spam. A credit would be polite if you copy elements of the design or idea.
It's funny, I started building my own Headmaster Primal Prime truck-gorilla out of Kre-O bricks back in 2012. I'm still tweaking it, it will eventually combine with a trailer to form a proper robot mode for Optimus. It's weird how you ended up using the back of the truck for the arms, down do the fingers hanging off the back just like I did. Have you actually built your model with bricks? I'd be curious to build your mini version to see if it could be improved (I would first try to move the front wheels closer to the front).
