McLaren GZ5 'Gravity'
Welcome! This is my entry for the McLaren design competition. I am 16 years old and have always wanted to become a car designer, so this competition is perfect! Please let me know what you think.
About this creation
For this model, I sketched out an idea which infused some elements from famous McLaren designs but remained futuristic also. For example, the lights are McLaren's trademark P1/650s lights, the engine aesthetically echoes the engines of the McLaren M8 racers, and the open roof style resonates with those classic Can Am cars McLaren produced throughout the 1960's and 1970's. I have also added my own trademark details to the car, such as the fighter plane inspired rear wings and the air duct in the front of the car.
The whole car is my own design and I could genuinly see the GZ5 fitting in with the current/future McLaren range.

On a real version of this, the rear wings would be electronically controlled to adapt to the speed the car is travelling and increase downforce. When positioned as they are like this, they cut through the air, helping the circulation of air around the back of the car to ensure the car is disrupted by the air as little as possible.

McLaren GZ5 'Gravity'
The whole underside of the car is completely flat, and flows into a huge diffuser at the back to optimise aerodynamics and air flow around the car. The exhausts are purposefully high at the back of the car so that they do not interrupt with the flat underside.

The doors open in the typical McLaren 'butterfly' door fashion.

I chose to use a big canopy at the front to not only look futuristic and cool, but to help with visibility out the front of the car, since this is a very big supercar.

These huge intakes not only make the car look cool, but they allow the V8 engine to be cooled sufficiently.

Last, but not least, the mirrors are as little as possible, and sculpted so that the air can flow around them easily without ruining the dynamics of the car.

Thank you for viewing, and best of luck to everybody in the contest!

Wow! Definitely one of your best cars ever, and my favorite so far among all of these McLaren design competition entries. While one can easily see the McLaren influence in this design, it also has many of your trademark touches on some of the details, including the design of the hood and the big brake vents on the sides. Fantastic entry!
