“The second was Idonax: he embodies the Id, the unconscious, the ‘it’- the vessel of emotion, raw feeling- the driving force and desire within every psyche.”
-The Jankori, The Contenders #38
Idonax was the physical manifestation of the unconscious, specifically that of Toa Raxonax, who appeared in the guise of a large, feline Rahi. He was a powerful and cunning beast, though was also surprisingly stoic for one who looked as fierce as he. Acting as a counter to Shadonax, the Super-Ego, Idonax provided Raxonax with visceral power; at times this would help him, especially in combat, but at other times it harmed him, causing him to act impulsively. Nevertheless, it cannot be denied that they made a great synergy indeed.

Idonax was created in an experiment gone wrong; a creature named the Jankori attempted to dissect and analyse the psyche of a Matoran named Raxonax, which resulted in the emergence of three split personalities. Seeking to cover up the mess he had made, the Jankori took Idonax and whisked him away to a planet named Mardon; he attempted to similarly dispose of the other two, Raxonax and Shadonax, but ended up incarcerated due to a spat with the God Thanatos. Idonax spent many years living on Mardon, soon falling under the care of a race of swamp dwellers known as the Fardos; he even became the personal pet of their patriarch, a kindly old man named Kari, with whom Idonax spent many years before mysteriously vanishing one day.

The Jankori, now free from imprisonment, had transported the beast back to Racta Magna; he did this on account of the death of Shadonax, who had been killed by Raxonax in conflict. It was hoped that the synergy of Idonax with Raxonax would prevent any deterioration they might have otherwise suffered. The beast found the Toa immediately, though did not approach him at first out of fear; this appeared to have a very negative effect upon Raxonax, who began to act impulsively and destructively. When he finally saw Idonax, he responded initially with hostility and violence, though the beast was able to overpower him fairly quickly. Idonax formed a psychic link with Raxonax, and from that point on, they departed with an unconscious, ineffable kinship.
First encounter with Raxonax. (Contenders #17)
They remained apart for a time, though they met again while Raxonax had left his home city in pursuit of a villain named Voltwhip. The Toa complained that his power had been gradually sapping for a long while; he would learn much later that this was on account of Shadonax’s death. With a single touch, Idonax rejuvenated him, forestalling the deterioration that inevitably had to happen. Raxonax deduced that Idonax was granting him power, and once he climbed onto the Rahi’s back, their power increased tenfold. Together they defeated the villainous Voltwhip and returned to the city of Racta Major. Raxonax proposed that the two of them remain together, and Idonax seemed to agree; upon arriving home, he would begin a long study on the beat.

The two of them later headed down to the realm of Racta Minus to further the study. However, they were interrupted by an opening portal, which began spewing out an entire legion of monsters. Raxonax’s allies, the Contenders, were quick to arrive and together they all helped to repel the beasts, among other villains. It was around this time that the fallout of Shadonax’s death began to catch up with them: Raxonax began to fall terribly ill, and Idonax was unable to help him, even with his rejuvenating touch. Eventually they both would have died, if not for the coincidental resurrection of Shadonax in the following weeks. They were quick to sense this and shot off after him; Raxonax fought his foe once again, this time with the aid of Idonax.
Confronting Shadonax. (Contenders #36)
However, Shadonax had grown too powerful for him, and it quickly became his turn to be slain. Idonax and the Contenders were also defeated soon after, with Shadonax conquering Racta Major with his ally, Makuta Aroxion. Shortly after Idonax’s imprisonment, Shadonax also began to feel the effects of Raxonax’s death and was convinced into resurrecting him. This proved to undo the villain, as Raxonax eventually freed Idonax and the Contenders, who soon freed the city from his tyranny. The trinity faced off one last time, though this time they knew that fighting would get them nowhere. Thus, they banded together and faced Aroxion, only to end up defeated and absorbed by him. However, at the last moment they broke free and defeated him, saving the planet.
The trinity united. (Contenders #49)
While absorbed, the three beings had merged into one, reuniting as a whole again. Though Idonax as a creature was no more, his being lived on within Raxonax, all three personalities united in harmony until the very end.
Front view. This isn't shot in my wooden box, as this MOC is too wide to decently fit in there.
Profile view; and now you can see the MOC properly!
Standing on his hind legs. The MOC isn't really designed for this, and he wouldn't be able to do that in the diegesis, but I thought I'd show it anyway.

Comparison with Kari.
Riding the beast! Yes, that's what those ugly handles on his back are for!
Though honestly, a Toa sized MOC would better fit on his back.

That's all, folks!
