Story: As a Matoran, Kohu inhabited the island of Artakha in one of its cities. He was a fairly skilled crafter, creating a variety of weaponry and equipment for Toa to use. However, he excelled in combat, quickly becoming the leader of the city’s guard. To test his creations, he utilized them during his time guarding the city. Since the island was guarded by Artakha, attacks on Kohu’s city were very minimal. Most of his duties included maintaining order within the city and training the guard for a possible attack.
When Makuta Kojol led an attack on the island to steal the newly created Kanohi Avohkii, Kohu became involved in the battle, fighting against the Makuta troops. He managed to hold his own against the odds, managing to take many enemies out of the attack. Despite his efforts, the Avohkii was ultimately stolen by Kojol. Kohu became disappointed that his efforts were not enough to repel the attack. He lost confidence in his abilities in combat and even crafting. He spent many weeks in seclusion before beginning to do anything again. He pledged to work harder at everything he did and become the best he could be. He also replaced his Kanohi Akaku with an Akaku in the shape of an Avohkii in remembrance of that faithful day.
Eventually, one night he received a vision of a figure that was obscured from his vision by a cloud of thick smoke. The figure spoke with ancient, yet somehow young voice saying that he was impressed with his efforts during the invasion and how he was working now. The figure also told Kohu to travel to Artakha’s fortress the next day. Before Kohu could ask whom the figure was or why he was to travel to Artakha’s fortress, his vision ended and he awoke to a dark room.
The next day, Kohu traveled to the fortress, as requested, where he was greeted by a group of tall warriors and a small group of Matoran. The warriors explained that Kohu and the other Matoran were selected by the Order of Mata Nui to join the Order for their skills and bravery in the previous battle. Just as the warriors finished speaking, they attacked the group of Matoran. While the other Matoran were defeated by the warriors fairly quickly, Kohu managed to defend himself for a lengthy period of time due to his fierce training and experimental weapon. He managed to damage one of the warriors, causing the others to receive the same damage. He realized that the warriors were created with a Kanohi Mohtrek and set out to find the current user. Before he was able to, the warriors defeated him. The warriors faded and a single figure stepped out of the fortress. The figure congratulated Kohu and told him he was the one who had passed the selection test.
Kohu traveled to Daxia, where he trained under a Toa mentor to master his skills. Once he had mastered his skills, he was granted a Toa Stone and became a Toa of Steam. He spent the next months perfecting his control over steam. He was given the role of returning to Artakha in secret in the event of another Makuta attack. He returned to the island, where he was greeted by Artakha personally. He trained under him as the island’s guard. After his training was completed, he returned to the city under the name “Vapor” to hide his identity.
When Teridax took over the Matoran Universe, a Rahkshi army was sent to Artakha to eliminate Artakha. Kohu joined in the battle, protecting the island and its ruler. Realizing his training, Kohu eliminated many of the invading army; however, his efforts were not nearly enough. The island’s forces were losing the battle and Kohu and Artakha were forced to retreat to the fortress. Promising to give his life protecting Artakha, Kohu fought the forces trying to enter. Realizing the effort was lost, Artakha teleported Kohu away while he teleported to the Core Processor. Kohu then set out to help the remaining Matoran escape from Makuta forces. Escaping through a thick cloud of steam, Kohu led the Matoran to an island south of Artakha. After the Battle of Bara Magna, he helped the Matoran evacuate to Spherus Magna.
Once on Spherus Magna, Kohu rejoined with Artakha who thanked him for his service and gave him the task of serving as Spherus Magna’s police force. He helped maintain the peace during the Reconstruction of Spherus Magna. Later, he was recruited by the newly formed Council of Toa to report in on the status of the interactions within the rebuilt settlements. He also served as a powerful warrior when necessary due to his previous training.
Jaetaro's Comments: This was a fun build for me, as I've been wanting to do something with this color scheme for awhile now. It followed a WIP that was incomplete since I was missing some parts. The build started off very similar to Atarashi's build since it was only white, silver, and black. Then I added the trans red and blue and decided to make a police Toa. The arms and torso were fairly easy to build, while the legs caused some frustration. After the build was done, I had trouble deciding his element since I worked with the aesthetics first rather than an element. Afterwards, I had trouble determining things with his backstory, such as what type of Matoran he was, where he resided, and his occupation.
As for the build, I think it came out fairly well. I tried to keep white and black as the main colors with a silver trim and trans red and blue accents. Maybe, it could use some more silver on the legs. My favorite part of the build is most likely the legs, although they don't really use any new concepts.
As for naming things, Kohu is "vapor" or "fog" in Maori, and the Fo- prefix for what type of Matoran he is relates to "fog."
