Carnotaurus
Mission 3 of the Land of Mardon (Bionicle RPG)! Watch me relive my childhood as I present my favourite dinosaur in the newer, cleaner, CCBS flesh!
About this creation
This is for the Land of Mardon. (Bio RPG) which is run by Caleb M.. My character in this is Fardo Kari.

Mission 3, in Caleb's words;
"In mission 3 your Main character (M1 character) is walking in the desert and he/she encounters a wild beast. You need to build the beast in this mission."

Here is the bit where I usually put the backstory in. It's a Carnotaurus, what more do you want? I don't know whether other dinosaurs exist on Mardon, but the one thing that's certain is that this particular therapod could definately be found on Mardon, particularly in the grassy plains surrounding the Leho forrest. I can direct you to some more sites for info on the real Carnotaurus; there's always the Wikipedia page, but this site has the basics in a more reader friendly presentation.

BUT ON TO THE MOC!

Here's the front view! Wait, that's not very helpful.

The back! Oh wait, that isn't helpful either.

Profile! Here we go, now you can see it!

Plan view.

SO here's a fun thing; I wasn't even planning to build a Carnotaurus when I started on this project. I wasn't sure what exactly I wanted to make, but I had an idea for some tall, monsterous made up Rahi thing, like a Jabberwocky or something. However, once I had constructed the skull, I was beginning to notice that it looked like that of a carnotaurus, and so I went from there. As a result of that, the proportions are kinda off. For example, Carnotaurus were known to have very small heads with great fat necks, and this MOC pretty much has the opposite. Also, the need for ballance also made this MOC a bit of a tank, though Carnotaurus are described as being big but lightly built.

This MOC, as you might imagine, can't do a whole lot of posing, so I'll use this time instead to zoom in on the design.

L00et's take a look at the head. In case you haven't noticed, this head was mainly built with two chains of CCBS bones connected together, with a whole bunch of technic between them, for the eyes and upper jaw. This was the trickiest thing about the build, and filling in around the eyes was a nightmare. I feel that this head looks much better from a distance than up close.

The torso is my favourite part of the MOC, as the armour fits together here so well, creating some nice shaping.

The arms. Not much to say here other than these should be much smaller, as Carnotaurus had the shortest arms of any therapod; they were much shorter than those of the T-Rex.

The legs. Again, technically these should be slimmer, but with that head there's no way those legs would stand up if the feet were any smaller.

Tail. While it can't move up and down, only side to side, I feel this looks much nicer than just a single chain of CCBS like how I normally do it.

Height comparison. If you consider Montu here the size of a human, then the scale is... eh, about right. The Carnotaurus should be a little bigger though. If you look at this picture here then you can see that the legs and toro should be much taller, though with the completed hight of the massive head and horns then the height is about right. This should have been a little bigger, but it's serviceable. It's not monsterously out of scale or anything.

Taking a runner at Kari, my RPG character!

Idonax fighting the Carnotaurus... or are they trying to kiss?

My three Rahi MOCs. Rahi are one of my weaknesses; I've tried several times, some of them decent and some of them... really not... ew...

I think I'm pretty happy with these three for the meanwhile, though.

My four biggest MOCs!

Chasing Metru Man! This photo was taken a little while after the others (after I found out he actually could stand in a running pose like that), hence why his toes have changed for this one shot.

Well, that's all folks! See you on friday with Contenders #14 as planned.

Quoting Pakari Nation99 (G Hayes) Great idea, I love dinosaurs, but execution...not so good. You succeeded in getting the overall shape and appearance and armor coverage, but the proportions are all over on it. The head really needs to be scaled down, maybe sacrificing some detail and accenting the presence of the trademark horns is in order. The arms need to be scaled down too, in many reconstructions they are almost non-existent. The body is way too thin and it makes him look really awkward looking. Achieving a larger torso is difficult in CCBS unless you make a rounder shape and just leave it hollow inside. The shin part of the legs are really flat as well, but the thighs and the feet match the proportions of the tail and head. So really, all that in short: Make the body bigger and fit it in proportion with the head, keep the thighs and feet, make the head a tad smaller, and make the tail a little longer. Again, great idea, but just make him proportional. Keep it up!
Thanks man! Yes, I can appreciate the problems with the proportions, and I greatly appreciate the affirmation of them. I will implement them in the inevitable V2 of this MOC that I will make in the near future. Thanks again! :)

Quoting JosephC 123 Wow! Amazing what happens when someone puts effort into a rahi! I know I didn't! Better make up for it with an entertaining story then!
Thanks man! Aw, don't feel bad about it. From what I've seen from your LoM entries, your narratives are fairly entertaining anyway.

Very cool, dude! With the size of the arms, It sort of gives a velociraptor or indominus type vibe. The feet look cool as well. It sort of reminds me of my IFB King Beast.

I think its amazing, but my brother sort of had a rage rant about how "out of proportion" (He's mad about dinosaurs and has a problem with things like that) it is. Aside from that its awesome.

Quoting Ben Veazey So cool! "You think it got out?" "Depends on what kind of dinosaur they cooked up in that lab." Sorry, I just had to. ;D

Thanks Connor! I'm glad you like the feet! The arms are definitely too long, as that's not really the look I was going for; Carnotaurus arms are meant to be smaller than those of a T.Rex.

Quoting Chains ~ Jeez, Shadownax should just ditch his little meaningless team cause now he has THIS! Being serious though, this MOC is pretty cool. It's not amazing but it was a fairly hefty MOC so I can commend you on that. I wouldn't be able to pull something off like this on that scale. It's head surely looks nice. His mouth and teeth look awesome and the design is quite good. I do think it is a bit too large and doesn't really fit with the rest of the MOC. I think making the rest of the MOC larger would probably fix this but I'll get more into that later. His arms and hands are simple enough and work quite well. One of my favourite parts of the MOC is it's legs. They look very beast like and are very well armoured. The actual foot is the best part I think. The white CCBS Chestplate works very well with transitioning the Leg to the foot and looks awesome. The back of the foot and the other toes look really good. I also like the addition of the Piraka foot on the base as well. The tail looks good as well. It is very consistent and looks very smooth. The spikes along the top also look nice but my main gripe with it is that it looks very static and not very lively. Having a more flowing and alive tail would have made it a lot better. This would probably be remedied by adding vertical articulation. Now I come to my least favourite part of the MOC, the body. Although the top looks well armoured and it flows quite well, I think the shape of it wasn't the best. It looks almost like it doesn't have a belly. It would look a lot nicer if the lower body reached down more and had a bigger belly like it's real life counterpart. Despite this, it still does feature quite good texturing with the spikes. Overall, it's a good MOC but it does have it's flaws. You reaching out of your comfort zone and he sheer size of it does give it some penance however and it should be commended, I wouldn't be able to achieve something like this. Still not as good as Makuta Bat though (Better picture quality on that as well: http://www.mocpages.com/image_zoom.php?mocid=244051&id=/user_images/67499/12935367794 You really have let yourself go!) Can't wait for more MOCs and Contenders on Friday :D
Thanks Chains! Wow, I think that might be the longest comment I've ever gotten! I hear your concerns with it; I kinda knew the head would be an issue, and I do plan on changing it. I don't know about up scaling the MOC though, I think it might be a bit too much for me. The tail I may try with extra joints, though I don't know if it would hold up or not. With the underside also I can try to do something with it, but again, that may be a problem as there isn't a whole lot of room in between the legs, so I may have to work a bit further with that. I'm glad you like the legs; I was a bit worried they might not look as good, because I had to add so much in order for it to stay standing. Again, thank you so much for your amazing comment, I'll bear what's been said in mind. Heh, nothing could ever be better than Makuta Bat. I think that it maxed out all MOCcing potential, and we don't need to ever make MOCs again, as nothing could ever hope to compare to the Makuta Bat! :3

Thanks! I respect your brother's rant, the head in particular is ridiculous. I was also mad about dinosaurs when I was little, so I can see where he's coming from. I do plan to do a V2 at some point, and I'm going to scale the head down for sure!
