As a young boy of 10 years Prince Ranin loved to listen to his father’s stories about conquering other kingdoms, looting towns, and really just any adventures. He had lost his mother as when he was just a few years old and his stepmother treated him cruelly, and as a result was very close to his father. When Ranin’s father died in battle, it was a devastating blow. Ranin had thought his father was invincible and took the loss very hard. To make matters worse for Ranin, his stepmother became Queen and kicked him out of the kingdom. He was forced from the lavish castle, and had to become a farmer. As he grew up he became more accustomed to the difficult life of a farmer, but he still longed to rule a kingdom like his father had. When fantasizing about this seemingly far away dream, he would often remember one of his favorite of his father’s tales. It was about a secret stash of treasure hidden up in some nearby mountains. His father had placed it there, saying that it was for if the royal family had ever been overthrown, and needed riches to continue living. He hadn’t said what specific mountain it was located in, because he had thought that it would only be used in the case of a usurping, and he saw no reason to tell people that might let the location slip. The only thing the wise king had said was that it was marked by a statue of a close friend and great warrior that had been slayed during a battle. On one of these days that Ranin would let his mind wander to this story he decided to find this treasure. He had so little belongings that he took only a little food and his sword to hunt some of the animals that resided up on the mountain. After he had been traversing the mountains in search of this statue, he finally started up the tallest mountain in the entire range. This one was tall enough that the mountain’s peak was always covered in snow. He almost didn’t search the whole peak, for he only had his simple farmer’s clothes, but just as he was about to give up he thought he spotted something carved from a rocky part of the mountain. He hurried towards it, and when he got closer he could see that it was a statue carved from the rocks. Right next to it, he could see a cut out tunnel into the mountain. It was a short tunnel, and when he stepped in he could see the treasure. It was even better than his father had described to him. Chests full of silver coins and barrels of jewels were scattered around the room and even more coins where on the ground. He was ecstatic. He could use this to overthrow his evil stepmother and regain his rightful kingdom. “I won’t let you down, father.”
