About this creation
I can remember when I was first introduced to Battlestar Galactica. I was but a child then. I was only 2 when the series started. (Ah, it makes me feel young when I say things like that…well, until the younger builders on this site undoubtedly point out that their parents were about that age at that time, too). My father was a fan of anything sci-fi that would find its way onto the television, and he showed me Battlestar Galactica the moment they started running syndicated episodes. Coming off my first viewings of Star Wars, (only recently named, “A New Hope”), I was immediately hooked. Until, that is, those lounge singers with the extra facial features showed up. They thoroughly terrified me and I had my most lasting memories of nightmares, and my first memory of adoring my father as he gave me the surefire, super-secret Clark method of overcoming nightmares.

It’s funny, but here we are, better than 30 years later, and you can find pretty much any episode of any show that you want through one of many different avenues provided by the internet. By way of Netflix I watched as much of the original series as I could stomach, and those lounge singers still make my skin crawl. Amazing what you never outgrow.

Now I’m a LEGO builder pushing 40, (enough that it’s starting to push back now), I’ve watched the rebooted series, loved it, yet have never paid any type of tribute to this great show. I figured now was as good a time as any.

I named this one Battlestar Menoetius. Menoetius was a Titan from Greek mythology. He was known for his rash action and fiery temper. Menoetius, itself, is a name that means, “doomed might.” That may be significant, though I hope it’s not. See that? A MOC with a lesson in mythology. Um…you’re welcome.

This bad boy is exactly 60x20. My love of the series is shown in the design. If you look, you can find references to both the original and the rebooted Galactica. I thought about adding more color, but my last ship didn’t have a lot of bley in it, and I think it messed Mr. Rowntree up a little. Sorry, Matt. Won’t happen again.

Yes, it will.

If you would like to see this build in person, it will be making an appearance at BrickWorld 2016. Come check it out. Maybe say hi on your way by.

But enough talk, (as though I know what enough talk even looks like), let’s have a look at the ship.

This MOC was blogged on: BrickNerd

You can see the details around the top are reminiscent of the original Galactica.

I haven't used the trans pieces for engines in a while, but I wanted it to appear "in action" to the real-time viewer, so I thought it appropriate.

Oh, yes. You should be used to this by now.

Sorry for the blurriness on this shot.

The last shots show some of the details of the underside of the ship. You can see that this is the tribute to the rebooted Galactica.

Thanks for looking, my fellow FOLs. Let me know what you think. Hope to see you at BW 2016!

A super contrast to El Barto's builds. I like the smoothness of the hull on your ship: I think I prefer it. I also like the small pieces of red, which I think really adds to the look, without being distracting or unfaithful to the ships on TV. Excellent work.

Quoting Kermunklin the Giant Evil House Head Another creation that looks like it could have been kit-built. Impressive. But now you have me intrigued...what is this super-awesome Clark method of dealing with nightmares?
Not super-awesome...super-secret. How can I share that? Okay, but just to you. Don't tell anyone. Here it is...don't sleep on your back. Weird, right? It's completely psychosomatic, but it's what my Dad told me all those years ago, and it was perfect for a kid. Now, nightmares don't bother me that much. I can't even fall asleep on my back, but if I ever wake up from a nightmare now, I find that I shifted to my back at some point during the night.

Quoting El Barto ! Welcome to the Colonial Fleet! Looks great from all vantage points, and love those action shots. See you at the rendezvous coordinates, Commander. Good hunting!
So say we all! Thanks, Bart. Getting the nod from our resident BSG expert is a nice little confidence booster. On to the 20x40;)

Quoting matt rowntRee Not enough grey. XD Love it! Really dig the combination of the first and latest generations of Battlestars. I think I still prefer the old style bridge. Love how awesomely hugemongous that engine is, that'll push a vessel well into the next quadrant. And I know what you mean by the lounge singers, I don't know if I was creeped out more by the idea or the sickeningly bad make-up effects. I still can't look at old Diana Ross pics and not think of them. Sorry, Mahogany. Anyways, stellar job and outstanding news of your imminent presence at BW. See ya there!
I don't even think I had begun school at the time, so it wasn't the makeup, but rather the mind-numbingly horrific creatures, that I was focusing on back then. Now, even though I have some residual terror associated with them, I can notice the oh so awful makeup, and laugh. And then cry a little. But mostly laugh, because I'm a big boy now. Big and strong. Thanks for the compliments, as always. Glad you gave the thumbs up to those engines. I was undecided on the size of them right up to the moment that I posted the pics. I think I favor the bridge of the original, as well, but the revisited bridge was more challenging to build and makes more of an interesting MOC. So I went with that.

As always the greebling is excellent, but I'm really impressed with the overall shape. Very streamlined but at the same time very 1980's starship design.

This has got to be one of your coolest Galactica MOC's as of yet! Really like the ribbed underside and the superb shaping that you've pulled off. I also really am loving the transparent pieces getting used as engines. I've learned a lot from your creation!
