TIE advanced (version 2)
Here's my second attempt at Vader's TIE fighter. I built my first one back in 2011 that became pretty popular. I really wanted to remake this model while utilizing some of the techniques from the first. "If it aint broke, don't fix it" right? I actually had this model completed several months ago and finally got around to photographing it. Not too much to say about the build other than it is swooshable (sort of if you take it easy) unlike the old one and I made a ton of revisions to the shaping of the cockpit and other areas of the build. I pretty much started from the ground up minus some of the build of the wing panels. Hope you like it!

That is pretty wonderful. I would say, "instantly recognizable," but it's so recognizable, saying it is kind of a moot point. The dimensions are perfect and I like how you blocked out the wings. The seams are nearly undetectable. So good. Great work, Eric.

Wow, that's awesome! I can't remember a better one in this scale. The wings look especially cool. Great job!

Wow! I especially like the use of those textured bricks in the solar panels! And yes, this version is one of the closest to the movie version I have ever seen. "I'm on the leader!"

This incredible! I love the ultra-clean look. The cockpit area especially looks very cohesive. Excellent work on this! Better than the UCS version by far! (which I own, and is more dust than bricks) :-)

Epic MOC! Great combination of details but still very studless. I especially like the back portion of the ship and cockpit is nicely scaled.

Quoting M<0><0>DSWIM ! Nice version 2, Eric! I can tell that you beefed up the cockpit/pylon section compared to the original and it makes this one look more like the "real" one. Vader would be proud.
Thanks Moodster! I wanted this to be as close as possible to the real thing. Not only just looking right but getting it structurally solid where the fuselage can support the wing panels on it's own was the biggest challenge. I cheated with my first one back in 2011 where the stand helped keep it together. This one you can pick up and fly it aroud the house. I did a few times. ;)

Quoting Stephan Schumann Wow! Real great result on version 2! I like it balanced smooth shape and greeblies combination! What I really never found out: where are the engine-thrusters on an Tie Advanced? Nevertheless you had done it absolut accurate compared to the original. I say: EPIC Work, Eric!
Thanks! The engine nosles are just behind the cockpit ball (the dark bluish grey 1x1 cone pieces. There are four on the TIE advanced. Two above and two below. The bottom of this model is a mirror image of the top. I didn't photograph it though.

@El Barto, thank you! I actually used a scale model to get this as close as I can do at my skill level. There are definitely issues when it comes to to the type of parts we can use and making exact scale replicas. I had to throw in a mixture of accurate scale vs. what we are limited to with the Lego medium. On top of that, I use a style that I try to mix proper scale built in Lego without showing studs. I see a lot of TIEs built with plates in the wing panels to try and get the proper scale. In my opinion, it looks rough to me.

Just wow - this is stunning from the new base all the way to the greebling. No expense was sparred (I think I can get away with that even if raptors are not displayed). What will version 3 bring?
