This is one of a few projects I have been working on in LDD. I apologize for the poor picture quality, as I am incapable of using any rendering software. However, I think you get the jist of what Im trying to do here. Enjoy!
About this creation
Ha! You thought this was a regular B-17? No way! This is a mean armored beast designed for racing! ARM stands for Armored Racing Mech (pretty obvious?).
I really enjoyed designing the double cockpit for this thing. I will leave the file so that those curious can go disect it. The pilots can rely on their eyesight or on the combat cameras mounted in the dome above the cockpit, where a gunner would have been on the real thing.
I tried to get as many elements of the plane into the upper body as possible, and I think The tail section turned out pretty well. The challenge was getting a round shape while finding a way to securly attatch joints for the arms.
The shoulders are probably my favorite part of this thing, as they took two attempts to build. I had the bare frames for the arms already, taken from one of my gundam mocs (coming soon), so I treated each arm like a different design. The hard part was after finding the right design, I had to replicate it on the other arm, which took a long tedious evening to do. The wings can fold downward to serve as shields for the arms. I would have shown this, but LDD does not want to cooperate when it comes to rotating anything, and I mean ANYTHING!!!!
Dem legs be huge! I wanted to go with a sturdy look, while trying to get that plane fuselage theme in as well. I also wanted tires that looked like those you find on any large airplanes from the 40s, and I think it worked! It took a while to design the engines, but I think they turned out pretty well. Notice that there are 4 total, just like the B-17!
You might notice that there are various trans red, orange and yellow everywhere all over this thing. Considering that this is one giant misshapen race car with arms and legs, it is necessary to have all of the legally required turn signals, brake lights, and headlights, so that drivers can remain safe on the road...I know it doesn't make much sense, but I'm gunna stick with it. Besides, if I had a giant roller skating mech, I would want it to be street legal too.
So, This is the most recent of four mechs I have been working on in LDD. The overarching theme was something I was toying around with after a comment I received on one of my mecha creations. I wanted to create a world, or even better, an RPG, set in some sort of Lego multiverse, where people compete in races using gigantic wheeled robots. This is partially sparked from some real-life racing mechs I made years ago as part of the AEGAKS theme by RG. However, this specific theme would be all about competitive racing.
Hold on People. Trying to get the photos up ASAP. Thanks for the patience!
Quoting Kermunklin the Giant Evil House Head
Wow, that is pretty super great, to be sure. Fantastic design. Any chance we'll see this in real bricks?
Probably not, due to a lack of time and funds. I also think alot of the parts used here do not come in olive green and sand yellow! It wouldn't make much sense without those colors involved! Maybe someone else will be ambitious enough to try!
