Prof. Lupin and his class, on the way to the Staff Room, met Peeves the Poltergeist.

Lupin and his third year Gryffindor class saw Peeves the Poltergeist, (a little man with a mean smile, wearing a jester's hat, bow tie and pointed shoes) floating upside down and putting gum in a keyhole.
"Peeves," said Professor Lupin, "You should take that gum out of the keyhole or Mr. Filch won't be able to get to his brooms."
Peeves, who usually showed some respect to teachers blew a raspberry!
Lupin pointed his wand at the gum, said "Waddiwasi," then pointed it at Peeves and the gum flew up Peeves' nose! He flew away cursing.
"Cool," said Dean Thomas.

Professor Lupin opened the door to the staff room and the class filed in. Professor Snape who was sitting in an armchair got up and headed for the door.
"Leave it open, Lupin," he said, "I don't want to watch this. Perhaps no one's warned you that Neville Longbottom is in this class." Neville's face went red.
"I plan on having Neville lead the class, and I expect he will perform admirably," replied Lupin.
Snape left and closed the door behind him.

The class jumped as the wardrobe shook.
"Nothing to worry about, there's a Boggart in there," said Lupin.
Some of the class thought that was something to worry about.
Hermione answered Lupin's first question, saying that a boggart is a shape-shifter, which will take the shape of what it thinks a person will fear the most.
Professor Lupin asked Neville what he feared most and he replied in a whisper, "Professor Snape."
He then told Neville to imagine Professor Snape wearing his grandmother's clothes.
Professor Lupin then told them to practice saying the spell, "Riddikulus" and then to think of what they most fear and how it can be made humorous.

When Lupin thought everyone was ready he had Neville step forward, and aimed his wand at the wardrobe door. It sprung open and Severus Snape stepped out, bearing down on Neville.
"Riddikulus!" Neville exclaimed.

With a CRACK, Professor Boggart Snape appeared wearing Neville's grandmother's clothes, including a hat with a stuffed bird, and her handbag. The class burst out laughing, and the boggart stopped, surprised.

Neville stepped back and Parvati stepped forward.
The boggart changed into a mummy, approaching Parvati with its arms outstretched.
The mummy's wrappings came loose and it tripped and fell!

"Seamus," shouted Lupin, and he stepped forward.
A green-faced woman with long hair appeared: a Banshee. Her shrieking caused the hair on the back of Harry's neck to stand up.
The Banshee gagged and lost her voice.

Dean stepped forward.
The boggart became a severed hand that crawled on the floor like a crab.
With a snap the hand got caught in a large mouse trap.

Lavender Brown stepped forward.
The boggart turned into a giant rat.
The rat then wore a doggy-sweater.

Ron stepped forward.
Several people screamed as the boggart turned into a 6-foot tall giant spider!
The spider lost its legs and rolled toward Harry.

"Here," said Lupin, running forward.
People looked around. The boggart had become some kind of orb in the air.
"Riddikulus", said Lupin almost lazily. It turned quickly into several different forms.
"It's confused. Once more, Neville," he said.

Professor Boggart Snape reappeared.
"Riddikulus", said Neville.
Snape was back in his grandmother's clothes.
With Neville's great "HA" of laughter, the Boggart disappeared into wisps of smoke.

Lupin awarded 45 points to Gryffindor and gave them their homework assignment.

Hermione was assigned to loiter outside the staff room to follow Snape. However, when he came out, he spoke to her.
"Granger," he said, "what are you doing here?"
"I wanted to speak to Professor Binns."
"I'll get him," he replied.
Hermione was trapped. As Snape walked off, she had to speak to Binns about her recent exam paper.
Meanwhile, Ron and Harry were caught be McGonagall lurking near the entrance to the third floor corridor, and sent back to their common room where they met up with Hermione.

Harry and Ron ran to the staff room, but the bell to signal break never came. Instead McGonagall's voice boomed through the castle telling all students to return to their dormitories and staff to go to the staff room.
"Let's hide in here," said Harry, referring to a wardrobe where teachers kept their spare robes and cloaks. They went inside and waited, peeking through the door.

(Faces shown from left to right: Filch, McGonagall, Sinistra, Flitwick and Pomfrey.)
The teachers arrived, some looking worried, others curious.
"It has happened," said Professor McGonagall. "A student has been taken into the Chamber by the Monster."
Several teachers reacted emotionally, covering their faces with their hands. Madam Hooch fell into an armchair.

(Madam Hooch in armchair, Ron and Harry in wardrobe; Lockhart outside in hallway.)
"Who is it?" asked a teacher.
"Ginny Weasley," replied McGonagall.
Harry felt Ron slide to the floor of the wardrobe.
"The school will have to close," she said.

Just then the staff room door opened. Harry was sure it would be Dumbledore, but it was Professor Lockhart.
"Sorry, dozed off. What did I miss?" he asked.
"Just the man," said Professor Snape. "A girl has been taken. Didn't you just say you knew where the Chamber entrance is and that you should have been given a free rein?"
Lockhart stuttered and his smile faded, making him look feeble.
"Well, it's settled," said Professor McGonagall. "We'll get everyone out of your way. You'll have a free rein at last."
Lockhart looked at the staff for support but they looked back with loathing.
"I'll just go and get ready," he said and left.
McGonagall gave the staff instructions to make sure all students were accounted for and remained in their dormitories until the Hogwarts Express arrives the next day.

As Harry approached the staff room door, a stone gargoyle spoke to him.
"You should be in class, Sunny Jim."
"This is urgent," he replied as he knocked on the door.

Professor McGonagall opened the door.
"You haven't been given another detention, Potter?" thinking of Dolores Umbridge.
"No Professor," he replied, "I need to see Professor Grubbly-Plank. My owl, she's injured."
Professor Grubbly-Plank appeared. "Injured owl? I'll sort this out."
She took Hedwig inside the staff room, after McGonagall reminded Harry to get the letter she brought him.

Lupin said all the Gryffindors (except Hermione and Harry) earned points for fighting the boggart. For some reason Lavender's turn didn't make it into the book; maybe a couple lines were lost. So I decided she faced a giant rat (which the boggart did turn into when it was confused).

I got figures for all the staff that were mentioned in books 1 & 2. Professor Sinistra who taught Astronomy, had no dialog, and whose appearance wasn't described in the books was a black lady in the film. Some of the professors who taught only 3rd years and above (Divination, Ancient Runes, Muggle Studies, Care of Magical Creatures and Arithmancy) probably were there, but I didn't think it worth the trouble of adding figures, since with the exception of Trelawney, they weren't developed in the books.

In his 5th year Harry Potter goes to the staff room with his hurt owl and finds it flanked by two animated gargoyles. They weren't mentioned in his previous visits in Years 2 and 3, so perhaps Snape set them up, knowing students had been in the staff room.

There's a set called Professor Lupin's Classroom (#4752), with a Snape Boggart minifig. (I didn't like his look.) So I got the scarecrow's hat and crow (as well as a purse) over a year ago for Snape to wear along with McGonagall's outfit for my own amusement. After getting the giant spider for the Maze, I figured I'd make the staff room scene soon, so bought the mummy and Lupin's suit.

There's 3 brown colors in the staff room. The Wardrobe frame I'm using is the old brown that's been discontinued (from the Final Challenge #4702). I used the few pieces I had in that color to build it out. The walls and floor use the reddish brown that replaced it. The tiles going around most of the room on top are dark brown.

Many builds I see use a lot of tiles, so I tried to do it myself for this one. I didn't have enough reddish brown for the entire floor of the staff room, so created a carpet pattern in the middle.

There's a Peeves figure in the first Hogwarts set (#4709); probably because they'd hired an actor to play him in the movie, but it didn't make the film. His figure is grey, like a ghost and I don't like it, though I've used the pieces in other scenes. So I had been working on my own Peeves for awhile, but didn't have a scene to use him. Since Lupin's class meet him on the way to the staff room, I thought I'd include that scene here too.

March 2017:
Some time after I demolished this build, I got the Banshee minifigure from Series 14 from 2015. It was a pain to rebuild it because pieces were being used in other builds (such as Diagon Alley). I changed pieces in the carpet from orange to dark orange (and wished I'd gotten some dark blue), and the outer wall from dark-bluish-gray to light-bluish-gray. I also re-shot a pic with Snape that was blurry.

I then created a gargoyle for Harry to interact with as well as Professor Grubbly-Plank. I remembered Hermione was supposed to be following Snape from the Staff Room to see if he goes after the Stone in their first year, so added a pic for that, too.

It turns out I missed a scene. Harry saw the Gargoyle on the ground during the Battle of Hogwarts which reminded him of the warlock with the diadem! Unfortunately, I took it apart, so will have to wait until next time.

November 2018:
There's new LEGO Wizarding World Sets and "The Whomping Willow" includes a Seamus minifigure. The current minifigure series has Dean Thomas, which is better than mine so I bought it. Wands are smaller and now look more like wands than bars.
