Continuing a spree of revamps for the Contenders, here is another retooled character! This time it's Apothrahk, the Rahkshi of Gravity and one of the two remaining children of Reshak!
About this creation
“The mute Apothrahk is left to clean up the mess- he does this with monotonous endeavour; ungrudging servitude has always been his speciality.”
-Narrator, The Contenders #43

Apothrahk:
Apothrahk is a Rahkshi of Gravity created by Makuta Reshak of the Sombrak. Wielding a Staff of Gravity, he possesses a greater strength than the average Rahkshi, making him a foe to be reckoned with. While brutish and reckless, he is still respectably intelligent for a Rahkshi, and is capable of his moments of tenderness. Apothrahk has a strong sense of loyalty and respect, though his weakness is his gullibility; while Dukrina was still alive, he would allow her to abuse him without protest.

Apothrahk was created by Reshak around the same time as he created Thisrahk and turned Dukrina into a Toa. Apothrahk spent the first few weeks of his life training with these other two creatures, under Reshak's scrutiny. Throughout this time, Makuta Aroxion remained oblivious to the existence of Apothrahk or his siblings. Reshak sent his three servants away into hiding, after hearing his 'father' announce that the Sombrak would organise a siege on Racta Major. During this hiatus Apothrahk killed a Ko-Matoran named Osiro. This upset Toa Takathorax, an old friend of the Matoran, who swore revenge on the Rahkshi.

After his father's demise was confirmed, Reshak summoned his three children back to his side, telling them that he could resurrect Aroxion with their help. Predicting an attack from the enemy, he sent them to battle a team of Toa known as the Contenders. Apothrahk fought with Takathorax, but was only able to defeat him with the help of the others. He dragged Takathorax away and threw him into a large pit. He and the others then returned to Reshak, who promised that they would soon resurrect Makuta Aroxion. The four of them set off, heading to Racta Major, where they retrieved Von Nebula’s Black Hole Staff. They used it to free Thanatos and the Destroyer’s Three, forcing them to reveal the location of the Gate: a mystical device which was said to resurrect dead beings. The children of Reshak and the Destroyer’s Three managed to capture the Gate but the Contenders stopped them from obtaining the key.

They set up camp in Nolybas with the Gate, until receiving permission from Thanatos to advance on Racta Major, to obtain the key and reawaken Aroxion that day. Apothrahk battled Takathorax again but was defeated, distracted by the death of his ‘brother’ Thisrahk at the hand of Solorak. He recovered in time to see Aroxion’s mask destroyed, ensuring that the Makuta could not return. Dukrina convinced Apothrahk to forsake Reshak, deeming him a failure. They travelled around Racta Magna for a while, losing hope quickly, until they came across what they thought was the hand of Makuta Aroxion, planted there by Mordath. They believed that they could resurrect him using this severed limb. The two of them excitedly set off, but were then chased Mordath and a group of Dark Hunters; they eventually managed to lose them. Later the duo encountered the villain Dread, who invited them to the Platonic Justice, an offer which they accepted.

When they arrived, Apothrahk discovered that Solorak was also there. He attempted to kill him, to avenge Thisrahk, but the two were separated. He and Dukrina then witnessed the Gate being brought into the camp, and excitedly planned to use it for themselves; they got their chance when the Contenders invaded Dread’s camp. When they threw the hand into the Gate, they realised that the hand was actually a decoy created by Mordath. It ignited and destroyed the Gate, along with any chance of Aroxion’s return; the duo then retreated. As they were travelling, they encountered a ball of white light which claimed to be the soul of Aroxion. They escorted this being back to the spot where the Gate had been destroyed, and Dukrina sacrificed her life to give the ball physical form; her body was violently transformed before Apothrahk’s eyes. When the dust settled, this being turned out not to be Aroxion, and was actually a being named Shadonax.

The Rahkshi was then enlisted into Shadonax’s service, and with the help of a few other servants, managed to defeat the Contenders. Despite tricking and killing Dukrina, the creature took sympathy on Apothrahk and used his powers over the Gate to finally resurrect Aroxion. Bolstered by his master’s resurrection, Apothrahk helped the two of them conquer Racta Major; the victory was punctuated when Aroxion blocked out the sun and cast darkness upon Racta Major. Apothrahk remained a resident of the city for some time under the allegiance of the Shadebringers; he performed many services such as defending the city against Toa, arresting traitors to Aroxion, and defending the city from the Champions of Day, a newly formed ensemble aiming to liberate the city.

Apothrahk remains a resident of Racta Major.

Here he is! I wanted to take some of the ideas learned from Thisrahk and implement them into this design, in order to make it look more like a traditional Rahkshi.

The Back.

Profile. The spine was the biggest complaint about the last version, so I'm happy I was able to do something that was a bit more flowing, while also creating a bit more of a hunched over torso, like Rahkshi normally have.

Closer look at the spine.

The traditional Rahkshi set up.

Holding the staff more naturalistically.

That iconic Rahkshi pose!

Charging.

Going nuts!

Shoulder to shoulder with Toa Kopaka.

Fighting a member of the Torm.

With Gostok Gerikigil.

With Dukrina.

With the rest of his family...

That's all, folks!

Quoting High Emperor Duckie I know. I've always said that about Rahkshi
Well, to be fair, the Rahkshi were pretty tall for their day, and they were meant to look quite animalistic, unlike the humanoid Toa.

Quoting High Emperor Duckie Cool! But he could probably use a chiropractor! :P hunch-rahk of mata dame :P
Hahaha, thanks Duckie! I wanted to give him a bit of a hunch to reflect the shape of the original Rahkshi, but in hindsight I probably could've executed it better :P

Quoting Chains Productions A nice little MOC here! I like the spines on his back, they look a lot better than they used to. I'm also happy for the removal of the jaw. It was a good idea, but I think it looked a bit too strange and jarring. The legs are awesomely built, they look really bulky and nice. The build overall is just great and very unique. I do have some problems though. I think he looks very strange from the front. I don't know what it is. It maybe the width of the shoulders, or the height. I just don't know but from side angles he looks really good. I also think the upper arm attachment looks weird and I don't think those lower limb pieces should have been used for upper arms. Other than those though, the only other problem would be the open sockets on his upper legs which don't annoy me too much. Anyway, very good MOC Wert!
Thanks Chains, glad you like! Hmm, it could be that you can't see the hunch from the front, so the torso looks kinda compressed. I'll make sure to always shoot him from the profile in the Contenders :P Yeah, the upper arms are certainly unorthodox. I couldn't think of anything else to do for them, because the arm sockets point upwards instead of to the side, and the Mahri armour pieces on the sides kinda limits the articulation. Nevertheless, if I update this guy I'll see if I can do anything to replace them. The socket doesn't really bug me so much on the thighs however; they do nice to distribute the colour. If I ever find an alternative, I'll stick replace though. Thanks again, Chains!

Quoting Windfall the Wanderer Hey, I had a question for ya. Recently, I've been frequenting the Custom Bionicle Wiki, and I was wondering if you would give me permission to give a few of your characters pages on it. Most people don't want the hassle of typing up and formatting the page, hence why I would be doing that instead, making a clear, lengthy page to enjoy, and basically promoting your mocs.
Oh, that's a very kind thing for you to do! If you're happy to do that, then I'm okay with it. Thank you! :)

Quoting RaptorTalon ~ Nice! not a fan of the "spine" seeing as it looks very technic-y and it lacks the shaping and flow from the rest.
Thanks! Though I'm not sure what you mean about the spine...

Quoting Dark Aeon Wonderful as always. I'm calling it right now, Apothrahk will throw Thisrahk's mask thought the gate to revive him.
Thanks Aeon! That's if he can find Thisrahk's mask though... or the Gate, for that matter...

Quoting Windfall the Wanderer Impressive as always. I don't have much to complain about, except perhaps the slight messiness with the back. But it's a miniscule flaw in an incredibly well built moc.
Thanks! Yeah, the back is a bit messy, but I had to put all that technic in to stop the torso from wobbling.

Quoting Wondering Person Eh, I'm not sure I like this as much. He was much better before, especially the spine in my opinion. It made him unique, distinctive. Also...is that a child Thisrahk? YES!!!
Well, I'm sorry you don't like this as much. It's funny; most people disliked the spine of the last one, and it was the one thing everyone wanted out, but I can see why you say it was more unique. I'm afraid that's not a child Thisrahk, just his head :P Thanks for the comment!
