This model takes cues from two sets, one being the classic 10200 (AT&SF Super Chief) with regards to the nose design, while 60052 takes over the design for everything else, from the lift-away roof section near the nose to the colors scheme and crew cab inside details. LDD file included!
About this creation
Since the model is a a mash-up custom loco of a F7 nose and F40PH body, here is it's 100% fictional backstory:
These locos are from a experimental locomotive series called the F10, which was built in 1961-2 on an order of 20 locomotives in sets of two (7780 - 7790) for Brick Railway Systems (also known as BRS) by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division. These consisted of 10 A (cab) units and 10 B (booster) units, and were originally painted black with a red base stripe, just like the ALCO FA / FB units has been when built in the late 1940's / early '50's. The engines were eventually surplus to the needs of the road and were loaned to Penn Central in 1968 and eventually sold to successor Conrail in 1976. The engines were repainted in the "Conrail Quality" color scheme, with blue and black with dark gray grilles. They were sold back to BRS and patched with the original numbers and the Conrail logo blotted out in 1999. The blue paint scheme has been replaced with the old black and red base-stripe on almost all the locomotives, but 7780, 7783, and 7784 all remain in Conrail blue as of December 2015.
Here we see what the cab looks like once the cab roof is removed. By the way: The number 7783 goes on the cab sides near the windshield, while BRS (standing for Brick Railway Systems) goes below them on three studs near the base. The booster unit does not feature any details, and it's roof is not removable.
Here wee see the nose of the model, with ALCO FA / FB unit standing next to each other.
