Intro to The Tourney. Featuring Grers and (forbidden) explosives.
About this creation

The cold air bit into his raw hands and face. He pulled the rough silk closer around his nose, even though it would get very warm, very soon. With his numb hands he clumsily sprinkled leaves over the granite wall. Picking up a pestle, he began to grind the leaves to a powder, being sure to leave large chunks scattered around. Then he blew a wet breath on his hands and touched them to the tunnel's surface. He could actually feel the warmth of the granite radiating back to him. "This was the wrong day to be in the mines," he thought sourly, but kept his discomfort in check.

With the powder applied to the rock, he called behind him down the tunnel in the language of the Grers.

"Mazati bergi hougch rajij!" In answer, somewhere far down the tunnel to both sides two other Grers opened massive rock doors. Immediately, ice-cold air filled the tunnel and the larger leaves blew around in the air. Hermli pulled his firestick across the ceiling to light it, then dropped it in front of the wall.

He whipped a stone slab in front of himself as a shield from the--

A tremendous noise choked his ears and a massive blast of heat made the world a furnace, for a bit longer than the instant. "Good", Hermli thought. If the heat continued, something other than granite was still burning, which meant he had found his goal.

Discarding the few-thousand kilo shield as though it were leather, he dropped to his knees and plunged his hands into the new blast hole. Scorching metal touched his fingertips. Elated, he withdrew his burning hand and grabbed a pickaxe to finish the job. Then, as burning ecclightus leaves and the sharp stench of charred oil filled the air, he put the gold gem into a hip pouch and walked toward sunshine.

Veist and Amerach met him at the opening, and together the three Grers walked up the ridge. Speaking in Basic, Hermli told his birthmates, "This should sell for at least sixty pieces, and then we can all three enter the Tourney!"

This is my introduction entry to The Tourney 2016. Not much of the structure can be seen from these images, but I enjoyed building the cave system as large as my pieces would allow. I am basing my story around Grers, a race from Mythron that are not the subject of much attention.

I know that I included an explosion in this story, which for Mythron is generally taboo. However, the events in question were grounded in research, as certain explosive leaves do exist in the real world. Eucalyptus leaves are an example, and these trees caught in a forest fire have been known to explode violently. Chances are, their explosive power is considerably less than that needed to destroy a rock wall, but for the sake of storytelling (and given the magical environment of Mythron), I decided that such a device would not be too far-fetched in this fictitious world.

I hope you enjoy the build and small story! Please rate and comment.

Quoting Topsy Creatori Nice little mine scene. I'm finding that for telling stories and taking photos, these kinds of set/scene builds are ideal. :)
Thank you, Topsy! I knew that I wouldn't have much time to edit pictures, so I decided to take some pictures with no negative space. A cave worked just fine, and was especially useful for some fun lighting effects. Great to hear from you!

Quoting Gilbert Despathens Hmm, exploding leaves... we might have to experiment with introducing those to the LOM at large. Time to do some research! Also, welcome to the Tourney, and good luck.
Thank you Gilbert! I'm glad I could do something original. Enjoy judging The Tourney!

Quoting Halhi 141 Also, just so you know, your tourney intro can also be used as an entry to the December RC in LOM. If you'd like to use it for that challenge, then be sure to add it to the LOM group!
Copy. Actually, I'm not part of LOM anymore; that wasn't my preferred way to spend Lego time. But thanks for the reminder!
