Gas planets aren't just for decoration anymore. Deplete them off their massive reserves of gaseous fuels with the Gas Mining Platform...
About this creation
LIU Gas Mining Platform
The Ludgonian Industrial Union and the Octan Corporation® have come together once again. Together, we present the future of space mining, the LIU Gas Mining Platform.

Gas planets are some of the most abundant bodies in the universe. Before, they were only good for background decoration, but not anymore. The Gas Mining Platform will allow these precious gases to be mined.

This product is simple, but effective. It consists of two long tanks (for storing the collected gas), four VTOL engines, one cabin, 199,999 nuts and bolts, and three rolls of duct tape.

The process is simple. The operators locate bundles of valuable gases, they move the Gas Mining Platform over the area, and activate the static vaccuum. The vaccuum sucks up only the gas they want because a proton counting filter thing-a-ma-jig allows only that gas to enter. OK, its not that simple, but it works.

The top view shows off the overall structure of the craft.

The roof is loaded with various equipment, like the elemental mapping radar, the communication antenna, and the Octan advertisements.

Here's a shot of the rear. Note the two VTOL engines. They are point in towards the cabin here.

The engines are pointing down here.

The two front VTOL engines and the modest cabin window. There is not much to see when you're in the middle of a gas planet, well except swirling gas.

The underneath!

The cabin is pretty crowded, but it was necessary to have a crew of four. There's just a lot to do when gas mining.

The two workers in the rear monitor tank capacity and pressure.

The forward workers pilot the craft and locate pockets of valuable gas.

The crew of four poses here. Who said being a gas station attendant would never turn in to anything?
Note: All the valuable gas detecting and filtering equipment can be damaged if any of the crew members pass gas. The sudden change in pressure and the appearance of the new gas molecules fool the computers and cause them to overload. NO BEANS ALLOWED!

Very cool idea for mining on gas planets. The control room is fantastic, there are so many gadgets that are perfectly placed. |

Hmmm. It would seem to me that this is an overly complicated procedure for such a simple task. Why enter the atmosphere at all? We Tayasuunans have been mining our gas giants for centuries by using tankers equiped with gas scoops. We skim the surface of the Giant, lower the scoop, skip across the surface then retract the scoop. It works on much the same prinicple as a water bomber does. Your solution is overly complicated and risks lives. I'm sorry - but it just doesn't seem feasable to us. Nice MOC, but where's the door out? |

The ORE's science department will have to look into designing new warships to harness this new type of fuel. Nice work, I really like the shape its like a float office with tanks. |

wouldn't engines spewing fire be horribly bad on a gas planet? |

seems very safe and effecient- but more importantly it looks cheap, but effective. I love the white arms coming from it- great MOC. P.S., I have updated my Nintendo stadium. |

I like the concept here, but a craft that size just seems more suited to local deliveries. To actually harvest the gases on an industrial scale the mining ship would have to be like a million times bigger. Okay, you deploy a million of these things -- that's four million crew members, and your labor costs go through the roof! It's all about the bottom line. |

I like it, but as always, the cockpit is too cramped, you should work on that |

Hey, thanks for the partnership . . . I'm glad to associate with such a Lego genius (not to mention your double-over comic relief)! |
