Elio Salsano vs Jacob Syrups: Treebeard
About this creation
MELO 2016 home

My opponent Jacob Syrups

My Bracket is Orthanc.

Treebeard is famously known for his great poems.
No one in the theater have slept in a long time. It's the day after the crowning of the king. They've invited Treebeard to tell the next poem. Pippin and Merry fell asleep in the chapter Treebeard. So they initiated to invite the giant tree to talk everyone asleep after the recent events!

Here's the poem, taken from the chapter Treebeard. Will everyone fall asleep?

Ent. When spring unfolds the beechen leaf, and sap is in the bough;
When light is on the wild-wood stream, and wind is on the brow;
When stride is long, and breath is deep, and keen the mountain-air,
Come back to me! Come back to me, and say my land is fair!

EntWife. When spring is come to garth and field, and corn is in the blade;
When blossom like a shining snow is on the orchard laid;
when shower and Sun upon the Earth with fragrancce fill the air,
I'll linger here, and will not come, because my land is fair.

Ent. When Summer lies upon the world, and in a noon of gold
Beneath the roof of sleeping leaves the dreams of trees unfold;
When woodland halls are green and cool, and wind is in the West,
Come back to me! Come back to me, and say my land is best!

EntWife. When Summer warms the hanging fruit and burns the berry brown;
When straw is gold, and ear is white, and harvest comes to town;
When honey spills, and apple swells, though wind be in the West,
I'll linger here beneath the Sun, because my land is best!

Ent. When Winter comes, the winter wild that hill and wood shall slay;
When trees shall fall and starless night devour the sunless day;
When wind is in the deadly East, then in bitter rain
I'll look for thee, and call to thee; I'll come to thee again!

EntWife. When Winter comes, and singing ends; when darkness falls at last;
When broken in barren bough, and light and labour past;
I'll look for the, and wait for thee, untill we meet again:

Both. Together we will take the road beneath the bitter rain!
Together we will take the road that leads into the West,
And far away will find a land where both our hearts may rest

Treebeard himself. He is almost too big for the theater. But, he did get in safely. It helps that the theater isn't real, but made of Lego. In that way everything fits!

Here you can see the whole build. It's quite large. 60 cm wide I think.? Maybe 70 cm. 86 studs wide.

Treebeard is talking to Gandalf in his hands. Gandalf is pretty old and does not like to look up for a long time. This way they can look each other in the eyes. Gandalf learned to do that in the White Counsel years ago. Saruman told him it would make people listen better. And they will feel like they are taken serious!

The theater without the giant walking tree. The set is completely made to look like a forest.

The roof is made tilted with around 350 2 x 1 dark red bricks. Not fun to make... Lots of repetition...

All the important people of the events are here. Only Boromir is not there from the fellowship, which is logic, cause he is dead. Arwen, Elrond, Galadriel and her husband are also there. Gimli refused to take of his helmet, he did not want to show everyone he was going a bit bald. He especially didn't want LEGOlas to see it.

The most important man around could sit in the middle. He is king after all. But he truly loves to wear his old ranger clothes. Once a Dunedain, always a Dunedain.

The whole build from behind. As you can see it holds a lot of 2 x 1 bricks. I don't have much dark bluish grey left. I did order 600 dark red 2 x 1 bricks, that was enough for this build.

Fourth wall:
A very fun build. It took a long while to build, I thing 15 hours or something like that. I had the idea right at the first day, I was very happy about that. The round 2 build was a last minute build, cause of the Mocathalon, which I won with my team. (I won't repeat the name here, it is quite long...)
This build was tricky in some spots. The curtains are upside down, I don't have much inverted high slopes. Treebeard was the last thing I build, he was very fun to build. I do really like how he looks. I did not use a reference picture or text for him. Just two legs, two arms and a giant head. He is pretty strong actually. Only one leg is a bit loose to give him some flexibility. The chairs are a pretty cool detail I think.

I sure hope you like it! Please let me know!

And to finish it off: Good luck to everyone in round 3 of the Middle Earth Olympics, especially to my opponent Jacob!

Greetz,
Elio

Quoting Jacob Syrups Well, congrats on making it to Round 4! It is well deserved. You have now beaten both me and my brother in contests. Good luck in Round 4!

Quoting Reese Hawthorne Dang... this build is massive! Despite not going for the more conventional route (Treebeard in the forest w/ Merry and Pippin, etc.), you still turned out this great entry! The stage looks amazing, as does the star, Treebeard! You have my vote this round! Keep it up!
Thanks for your vote!

Quoting Michael Kringe Wow, this is soo huge! How many bricks did you need for it? As for my decision, you have my vote in this round! It isn't easy to build a creation that is both, huge and detailful, but you managed it perfectly. The only thing that could have been better are the trees behind the curtains, but on a second thought this can also be interpreted as intended, because in a real theater they would most probably be made out of cardboard. :P My favorite parts about this creation are btw the curtains themselves and the chandelier!

A monumental creation! Wow this is big, and the awesome part is that it doesn't feel skimpy on detail even though it is big! I really like treebeard except maybe that the eyes are uneven, I dunno why, but whatever, everything else just blew me away! And I'll echo another commenter that I think it's great that you took the category theme and built your own scene out of it. Super creative!!

Quoting ~ Saequis Gosh, that's large! lovely detail in the seating, and Treebeard is great - I love that tired look about him :) Good Luck!
Yeah, it is pretty large. At first I wanted to build all of the theater. Glad I did not do that.

Quoting Soccer Socks You definitely went all out with this round. All out of what everyone would expect from this category. As always, you showed great out-of-the-box thinking, and it's always exciting to see what you come up with me. Oh my, 600? The most of one piece I own is 80.
Hi there, Yeah, I have a lot of bricks. But I still run out of the right brick when I need it. And it's not the amount of bricks that count, but what you do with them. And you do great stuff with your 80 bricks! Greetz, Elio
