MELO R4: Carter Witzenburg vs. D H

About this creation
My great opponent D H. Good luck D H!

The Function
And in case you did not realize, this is a mini scale.
My category is The Black Gate Opens.

At the bottom of the tower I included the Mouth of Suaron

This ^^ is a bonus pic of "orcs" spilling out of the gate.

Well I will try to keep this fairly short and sweet. ;) First off I want to thank my PTL (PTL stands for Personal Lego Trainer (aka one of my older brothers)) for having the idea and helping design the function. And for the function all you do is turn the little knob on the side to open (or close) the gates. This was a very time consuming project, and there was not a whole lot I could do with this scene (unless I had a ton of bricks). Other than that, I really like how the landscape and rock turned out. I guess thats all for now.

To God be the Glory,

Carter

Very nice work on this! The gate really has the menacing feel it does in the movies. The rockwork is quite nice as well. Nicely done on the function of the gate, too, though I might suggest gearing it down so the gate opens more slowly like in the movie. (I do realize that might have been too hard to do, though). Solid work nonetheless. However, your opponent has my vote, due to the thought and detail he put into it.

Oh, I meant the build as a whole :P the rocks are perfect, there is honestly nothing I would do differently :P

Quoting Hildigrim Took Alright, to give you a favor and not keep the suspense up for to long I'll start by saying D H has my vote! Sheesh! You guys don't like making this easy, I know it sounds like we've said that all throughout the contest but we mean it! Both builds are fantastic and attract my attention... Doug: Your build is fantastic and like people have stated before, your attention to detail doesn't disappoint, there's so much to see! I could name a ton of cool little details, such as the nice flooring in the tower and the trumpeter leading the troops... Carter: You've put on a colossal show the whole time, And I love it! I like the gate and function, but I love the rocks! You have had impressive rocks in a majority of your entries! I like the overall but I think if you had gone smaller scale with a little more quality that would've done you wonders, the build is great and is most definitely noteworthy but if I were to get real nit-picky it feels a bit square/bland :/ I understand that at this scale that is a difficult thing to work with, but as I stated earlier if you went smaller you might have been able to include a small dead tree etc... In the end D H has my vote! His clever inclusions and attention to detail won me over...
Funny of you to comment on the rocks, I knew you liked rock with small pieces instead of large ones. So I actually made the rock like that just for you. Glad you like it.

Oh, wait, forget what I said in my last comment. I just noticed I am not in the Barad-dur Bracket. Sorry again...

Very nice entry! I really like the use of the flat fluted bricks and the spikes! In my opinion you are one of the builders who advanced their skills most in the contest! After Bree this is my second favorite of your entries. In the end I chose your opponent's build though, because I was really fascinated by his excellent and unique portrayal of Osgiliath. Good luck with the other judges!

Great work! Would have been nice to get that second tower finished, but nonetheless it looks nice!

Wow! Bravo Carter, that is probably the best way to do that wall. I also decided that full size wouldn't work... so I went with a different scene from the chapter altogether. Like a previous entry that was micro (was it Timothy's build?), I at first thought this was full size, so that tells you that you kicked butt. The rocks are awesome, and the mechanism to open is really creative. Awesome job!!

Hi there, Your gate looks pretty cool. Your build is missing something. It's very static like this, without figures. Greetz and good luck, Elio
