LEGO Speed Champions Ford GT40 Racecar - custom SC mod
This is my interpretation of the '66 GT40 LeMans Racecar from Lego's video. I started out attempting to recreate the "true LEGO Speed Champions" version of the car, however I couldn't resist the urge to go my own way with the build. Thus, I ended up with a custom SC GT40 that's one plate shorter than the Lego version and has various other small mods and adjustments to suit the style of my other SC-type cars.
Luckily, Lego kept the use of stickers to a minimum with theirs, so mine can still look a lot like the original Lego design! I decided to go with the Gulf livery too since it's always been my favorite. It looks a little better rendered as well, at least on the black background. (pics rendered with a bright white bg can be found on my flickr stream)
Finally I'd like to give shoutouts to my friends on flickr who've created their own Lego SC GT40 models!
Ron Dayes - of course you've seen his version! Ron beat me to the punch with a quick delivery of as close a copy as possible to Lego's car, which had the serendipitous effect of officially leading me to do my own thing with a customized version :D // PROTOTYP - Proto's got a sweet customized version of Lego's GT40 with a 1-stud elongated wheelbase. He liked what I did with the front air scoops enough to credit me for its use on his car so I'm very honored with that. He's also put together a slick real-bricks copy of his car so you gotta check that out! Paulo D - Paulo designed a version of the GT40 in his own unique style, one that looks awesome beside a Minifig, moreso than any Speed Champions car ever could!
Here's a detail pic as well. It shows the two other variants you can use for the front air intake. They all fit and each one works easily in LDD.
I was a little disappointed that this car wasn't produced in the classic Gulf colours. Having said that, this is one of the more technically impressive models from TLG. They used some clever techniques and showed care in the creation.
Your model is terrific, and the little mods you did add to the car and improve on the original. The little details you added are awesome. Keep it up! :-)

Awesome job getting the shape right! Love the inverted front; haven't seen that before.
Thank you for the nice comment Justin! That front end idea comes straight from Lego with only a minor alteration by myself. Incidentally, a lot of people have commented elsewhere their surprise at Lego for using such a technique on a Speed Champions car (including the transparent pieces for headlights), considering the abundant use of stickers on the rest of the SC line. You never know, we may yet see it produced as a set one day. It has garnered quite the following after all!
