Architectural Structure No. 1
This is a MOC that I have been wanting to build for about a month or so. It started out originally as a one day project, and then 11 days after the project’s beginning, I sit here typing the description. Life has been…BUSY, to say the least. There are many more ideas that I am dying to start constructing…
About this creation
Architectural Structure No. 1

Architectural Structure No. 1

Heavily inspired from the iOS app Epic Zen Garden, I knew that I wanted to try to make an architectural MOC in microscale. Links to pictures from Epic Zen Garden: here and here.

Another huge source of inspiration goes to the enormously talented MOCer Rocco Buttliere (BrickWorld Master 2016), who I had the great pleasure of meeting and displaying next to at BrickWorld Chicago 2016. Please check out his outstanding MOCs.

The MOC features a pseudo-Frank-Lloyd-Wright-style layout, complimented by a Japanese cherry blossom tree and rock garden. The gazebo was somewhat of an addition to simply fill space, though if I do say so myself I think it goes perfectly there. :P

Your comments and critique on both the MOC and photo quality are so very much appreciated. Better quality pictures can be found on my website.

Happy building and God bless! :-)

Quoting Promar Quadratus Awesome work John! It's great to see you still brickin' in force (I'm working on it ;) ). While Japanese and modern are synonymous with FLW, I believe that main structure is a little more Brutalist in nature (no, really, that's an actually designation of architecture). FLW always incorporated more natural building materials (from the site if possible) such as wood and stone. All that being said, I still immensely like how this whole build looks. The pagoda, like you said, is perfect. I really like the paneled fence and the micro plant-life. That one tree in the far corner is genius :) As for me, I've put together another creation, but have yet to find the time to actually post it (maybe this weekend). Thanks for the inspiration! God bless, ~Promar~
It's good to still be brickin'... Time has been something that has become scarce. I do see your point about FLW and the building materials. Perhaps I'll have to do another microscale build using some natural building materials... Brutalist? Can't say I have heard of that; I'll have to Google that, sounds quite interesting. I may actually be going into architecture for college, so I would most likely get to learn some more about Brutalist style. I can't wait to see your creation! Thanks for the comment, my friend. Hope you are doing well; God bless! :-)

Quoting Justin Li Saw this on Flickr...fantastic micro-scale work. Love that pearl silver balljoint for some reason.
Well thank you very much for the comment. Yes the pearl silver ball joint was actually one of the major sources of inspiration for me with this MOC.

Quoting Builder Allan Very nice! Looks like a great place to live if that was possible. The house looks just right, and the added gazebo looks very nice too. Great work :-)
Yes I would love to be a micro-figure and be able to call this home, but c'est la vie. ;-) Thanks for the comment.

Quoting Gerald F. An amazing model with a stunning landscape! I love the scale of this build, perfect to have little microfigures living there comfortably. I like curved tree you added at the back, looks natural and vivid. The house is spectacular, white being the best color for a modern structure. An amazing build all around! I happen to build some micro scale architecture models, too, except that they're much much smaller than this. I hope to see more from you! Keep On Brickin'!
Thanks Gerald; you will indeed see more MOCs from me. Don't know exactly when though... Thanks again.

Quoting Lobo 630 This is really great, John! I'm actually working on a architectural build as well right now, although it's at a smaller scale (closer to Rocco's 1:650). Building that has really given me an appreciation of what goes into making these scale models, so yours really jumps out to me with all the different shapes and details you've captured. I hope you'll continue to build in this style in the future!
It's such a fun theme to build in, isn't it? I too have obtained an appreciation for all the micro-details after building in this theme and seeing some of Rocco's work in person. Thanks for the comment!
