Yet another long forgotten character returns from the grave! This is 'Catcher', a viscious Dark Hunter and the former partner of Kuvago the Devastator!
About this creation
“I don’t remember my Matoran name- the one I had when you experimented on me- but today, they call me ‘Catcher’- loyal messenger, scout, hunter and assassin!”
-Catcher to Astrok, The Contenders #37

Catcher:
Catcher’ was a bird-like Dark Hunter who operated on Racta Magna; his real name has since been lost. Though physically weak, Catcher proved to be lethal with his uncanny agility and penetrating beak and claws; he was also a master of stealth, a practitioner of ambushing. Catcher was deeply sycophantic, passionate in his loyalty but quick to change his allegiances, as demonstrated in his shift from Kuvago the Devastator’s charge to Makuta Astrok’s. Despite such toadying, Catcher was never a foe to be underestimated or overlooked.

Catcher attacking a Toa. (Contenders #42)

The creature called ‘Catcher’ was originally one of the early Matoran settlers on Racta Magna. He bonded with a Toa named Kuvago in his early life, idolizing his skill and strength. When war broke out with the Gostoks, the Matoran helped Kuvago as much as he could, setting up traps and baiting out Gostoks for the Toa to destroy. Eventually the war was won, yet the Matoran still hoped to fight by Kuvago’s side one day as a Toa. But Kuvago shunned the settlers, now inhabiting the city of Racta Major, and wandered into the wasteland. The Matoran was distraught; how could his hero abandon him so? When war broke out again, this time with the Makuta Sombrak, the Matoran did little to participate, completely disillusioned with his society, and quietly hoped for Racta Major’s fall and the Sombrak’s victory.

Kuvago and the Matoran. (“Devastator,” the Deceiver)

During one skirmish, the Matoran was captured by the Sombrak and mutated into a birdlike creature by one of their members, Makuta Astrok. He was released into the wild, for Astrok had no use for him, and was later picked up by the Dark Hunters, the Racta Magnan faction led by ‘Slave Driver’. He was brought in, and it was here that he shunned his original name and became ‘Catcher’. Kuvago was also a member of the Hunters, now dubbed ‘Devastator’; Catcher recognised him immediately, though Devastator had at this point forgotten his past life. The two hunters quickly became friends and soon began plotting to overthrow their leader, Slave Driver. Catcher served as a scavenger and scout for Slave Driver, but also completed tasks in relation to Devastator’s conspiracy; their plan was eventually halted upon the Sombrak’s re-emergence into the world, causing the group to scatter and go into hiding; Catcher waited in vain for Devastator to summon him again.

Devastator and Catcher. (“Devastator,” the Deceiver)

Instead, years later, Catcher was found by Slave Driver and reassigned to his entourage. While under his wing, Catcher and his new friends attempted to attack a Toa team named the Contenders, the new protectors of Racta Major; needless to say, the effort was a failure. They plotted for a second attack, but the city ended up being taken by another: The Shadebringers, spearheaded by the villainous Shadonax. They cast the planet into darkness and invited the Toa’s enemies to live in Racta Major. Upon arrival, Catcher witnessed Makuta Astrok, now one of the Shadebringers, subdue Slave Driver and mutate him into a beast. Remembering Astrok’s hand in his own transformation, Catcher quickly allied with her, serving alongside the deformed Slave Driver.

Catcher fighting the Contenders. (Contenders #35)

His first charge under Astrok’s command was to bring two Gostok children to her, so that she could mutate them into a third servant; his second was to protect Racta Major from the Contenders, who attempted to win back the city; his third was to accompany Astrok as she hunted down Toa Raxonax, one of the Toa who escaped in the aftermath; Catcher almost managed to kill the Toa but was repelled. Once their brief conflict had ended, Catcher was stationed outside the gates of Racta Major with Slave Driver and the mutated Gostok, awaiting the Toa’s return. When the moment came, Raxonax brought an assembly of warriors, whom he dubbed the Champions of Day, to aid the attack. Catcher fought fiercely but was eventually forced to retreat.

Astrok’s Entourage. (Contenders #42)

Upon returning, he learned of Astrok’s plot, in collusion with the other Shadebringers, Sohbec and Shadonax, to destroy Makuta Aroxion, who had usurped Shadonax’s position as the leader of Racta Major. She had planned to use the Champions’ attack to distract Aroxion, so they could strike him down and then deal with the attack. However, the Champions ended up breaking through, forcing Astrok’s party to fight them first. During the battle, the Champions freed the Matoran prisoners and attempted to escort them out of the city. Astrok’s crew intercepted this caravan, and Catcher was ordered to kill them; Helda, a Dark Hunter and close friend to Shadebringer Sohbec, attempted to stop this, but only ended up getting killed by Catcher herself.

With Astrok and Sohbec in Racta Major. (Contenders #47)

Naturally, the slaying of his friend angered Sohbec greatly, who promptly responded by blasting Catcher in the face with fire, killing him.

Here we go! For those who don't know, Catcher was a character I built for my cancelled youtube series, Love and Hate. He was an assistant to 'Devastator', the series's villain. I never gave him a post because, like Slave Driver, he was a tablescrab Inika build- the original version can be seen here though.

The back. There was an actually a second version of catcher which I never posted- like, anywhere- that was black and silver as opposed to primarily silver, which is why his colour scheme is that way now.

His wings can fold up in a way, and he can crouch quite low to the ground. This is his 'default' position, the way he normally stands.

Height comparison with Onua, Uniter of Earth!

With his little brother, Ikir!

Former partners, Catcher and Kuvago!

All my Dark Hunter MOCs!

Cheeky preview.

That's all folks!

Quoting Alice Rieker I LIKE IT! a lot, actually, in case you couldn't tell by the fact that my Unnamed Guardian's wings keep getting bigger (I really need ideas for a real name for that guy...) I LOVE Bionicle/Technic wings on MOCs! also, I LOVE your photo edits!!! I know this is really weird to ask, but I was wondering if you could do anything fun with the one photo I have of the Prototype, I'd try myself but I don't currently have a computer with any capacity for drafting... It's up to you, I'd just love to see what you could do with it!
Thanks Alice! Yeah, wings are difficult to do, but I'm happy with how these ones turned out! I'm glad you like my edits, too- I'd be happy to do an edit for you, though I may be a little too busy to get it done right away- If you wanted a digitally added background like with the main photo here, you would have to give me an image with a plain background, white ideally but any as long as the background and foreground are easy to distinguish. But yeah, I'd be happy to do that for you, though I can't promise I'd get it done right away :P

Quoting Toa Gaim That I don't know, but I must admit that creator own take on Makuta is interesting especially the one with the wings on it since it's a nice reference to Bionicle 2 Legend of Metru Nui. (Enkidu:"I meant you birdbrain."
True, all the models were nice, though I did prefer the one with the wings. (Catcher: "You calling me a Dodo?")

Quoting Toa Gaim Now that is a bird of prey here! Good work Wetman! Did you hear about the Bionicle 2016 Makuta building contest coming up? Enkidu:"Alright Birdie remember the plan when you spotted a nagging Turaga drop your dodo on him! The smell will scare away the local before they could listen to him. Any question?"
Actually, I just found the video- this is certainly strange: does this mean we're not getting a Makuta in set form? It's also quite strange that he seems to be appearing fully in-the-flesh in Journey to One now and not, say, next year. Also I'm not too sure about that Mask of Ultimate Power, but I'll hold off on my opinions on that until next year.

I'd say next week's moc is an upgrade of Dorru, primarily due to the black and metro green colors. Dorru is the only currently living and being used character with that colorscheme.

Quoting Blizzard - Aha! So for once my suspicions were correct! It was Catcher! Now for my second suspicion. Probably won't be correct, but who knows? Anyways, the moc itself is intimidating, dark, and seems to radiate evil in a vulturine way. I especially love the wings, which aren't very gappy, but in the areas where they are gappy they are too small to notice. Nice job, and I hope to see more!
Thanks Blizzard! Yeah, it was difficult to design the wings in a way that didn't look gappy, but I tried my best :P And what is your second prediction, out of curiosity?

Quoting Callum ~ Nice job man! This MOC is certainly unique. I like how you brought back an older character and made him new again. He surely looks very scheming and intimidating. His colour scheme suits this, being quite muted. My only problems would be that I think it could use with a little more silver in the middle as it feels quite unbalanced there, and also the wings are very strangely textured. The daggers running along the bottom fit well but then the hook and the other hooked claw piece kind of mess with that cohesion. Overall though, he's a cool, interesting MOC. Props man!
Thanks Chains! Yeah, I always enjoy bringing back an old character and revamping them- it is always fun. My actual intention was to make the silver on him as minimal as possible, to make the silver stand out more- I had to do it for the head, wings and feet, but other than that I wished to keep the silver as limited as possible. Yeah, unfortunately there's very little I could do with the wings. I tried to only use those Barraki blade pieces, but then I couldn't create the proper silhouettte with just those pieces alone, hence the hook pieces. Thanks once again Chains!

Thanks! Yeah, I was thinking that myself, but considering that they contract, I didn't see any need to change the design. Not sure what you were going, but technically they're not partners anymore since Kuvago ditched his Hunter mantle- Catcher just doesn't know it yet.

Quoting Wondering Person He reminds me of a vulture. Like preparing to swoop in after a stronger foe weakens an opponent.
Heh, it's hard to make a birdlike villain and not make them look like either a vulture or crow. :P He serves primarily as a scout, but that is certainly one way he can fight. Either that or get up in the hero's face and distract them.
