Halo 3 Battle Rifle - BR55HB
The BR55HB Battle Rifle
About this creation
From Halo Nation:
"The BR55HB SR is a select-fire rifle first fielded in 2548 as an improved variant of the BR55 Battle Rifle. The BR55HB SR was designed to further improve on the exemplary performance of its predecessor, which had seen service for over 27 years, the entire duration of the Human-Covenant War."

The Battle Rifle is one of the most redoubtable weapons in Halo 3, offering a powerful mid-to-long-range solution to moth single-player and multiplayer problems. Its distinctive firing sound typifies the frantic multiplayer action of the third Halo.

Features:
Spring-loaded bolt
Removable magazine
Full-scale, life size
Built without glue

An overview of the weapon, which is full-scale, and heavy

This angle highlights a small inaccuracy - the black section of the barrel under the rails should have vents in the side. I decided that the rounded shape was more important, and so incorporated some extra details on the top.

The three-pronged muzzle is a distinctive element of the H3 BR, but I didn't enjoy building it. I'm satisfied with the result, but it's flimsy.

The scope owes significant design influence to Nate Andrews, whose version of this gun is fantastic.

I really should have put something here for scale...

Here the lattice-work on the side of the gun is highlighted. It looks better than the smooth sides the gun could have had, but I don't really know if they serve any actual purpose from a mechanical view.

Here the bolt, in its forward position, and the ammo counter. The counter's design is based on Nick Brick's style of Lego numbering, but I don't know if it's the same design inside.

The bolt pulled back and locked up, ready to have the magazine removed. A quick flick back to the left will send this shooting home.

The scope detaches easily, and I actually quite like the look of the rifle without the scope.

The magazine removed. It's a brick

The magazine slides home easily and is held securely.

The scope on its own.

Details on the scope are a little arbitrary - just some knobs and buttons.

The rear lens is recessed into the scope, accurate to the game.

And the front lens is not recessed, which is an inaccuracy I can live with.

The trigger doesn't move - I could work a moving trigger in there, but Australia has a very anti-gun culture, and I already cop some flak from parents when I display these (kids love them, however).

The key components of the rifle.

4th Wall:
This was a fun build that went together remarkably fast. It's solid, mostly accurate, and feels awesome to hold.

Also; I'm back. I've finally worked out how to use the MocPages uploader on my new computer (only took me 2 years), and I have the time to take proper photos again. So, now that no one remembers me, I shall have to claw my way back to some recognition. Oh well.

Quoting Echo ~ Dude, this is fantastic. Halo being one of my favorite series, I owe 80% of my Legendary run in Halo 3 to this gun. It looks fantastic, and the detail is superb. And I know the feeling of having to claw back to recognition all too well. Good luck with it.
I'm glad you like it :)

Quoting David Roberts I like the smooth contoured curves of this weapon in places such as the forgrip. I also like the detailed on the sight, round counter and the lattice pattern down the side. Doing the end of the barrel must have been a tricky bit to puzzle out. Neatly done!
Thanks for your feedback David. Yeah, it was a bit of a pain to get those three prongs right. They're not quite connected right, but it's as solid as I can manage.

It has been a while... but not everyone forgets. This is still awesome, both in level of detail, and nostalgia.
