"Clemenceau" aircraft carrier, 1:350
French aircraft carrier "Clemenceau". LDD-version, 1:350 scale.
About this creation

"Clemenceau", lead ship of the class, was laid down in 1955, launched in 1957, and commissioned in 1961. She served in numerous roles with the French Navy alongside "Foch" for 36 years until finally decommissioned in 1997.

"Clemenceau" and her sister ship "Foch" served as the mainstays of the French fleet. The development of "Clemenceau" represented France's effort to produce its own class of multi-role aircraft carriers to replace the American and British ships provided at the end of World War II.

The ship was a small but effective design, using elements of United States carrier design, but to a smaller scale. The vessels were given relatively heavy gun armament for their size. During her career, "Clemenceau" sailed more than 1,000,000 nautical miles (2,000,000 km) in 3,125 days at sea, all over the world.

This ships was involved in the local Wars between 1974 and 1999: Djibouti, Lebanese Civil War, Iran–Iraq War, Operations 'Desert Shield & Desert Storm', Yugoslav Wars.

"Clemenceau" class aircraft carriers are of conventional CATOBAR design. The landing area is 165.5 m (543 ft) long by 29.5 m (97 ft) wide; it is angled at 8 degrees off of the ship's axis. The flight deck is 265 m (869 ft) long. The forward aircraft elevator is to starboard, and the rear elevator is positioned on the deck edge to save hangar space. The forward of two 52 m (171 ft) catapults is at the bow to port, the aft catapult is on the angled landing deck.

Designed from the outset as multi-role fleet carriers, "Clemenceau" class ships had an air group with up to 40 aircraft: 8 interceptors F-8FN, 15-16 fighter-bombers "Super Etendard" and 3-4 reconnaissance aircrafts "Etendard IVP", 8 anti-submarine aircrafts "Alize", 2 multi-purpose helicopters "Super Frelon" and 2 "Alouette III".

"Foch", followed "le Clem" by about two years in building, and served slightly longer than the lead ship, being commissioned from 1963 to 2000. However, instead of being destined for scrap, she was immediately transferred to the Brazilian Navy where she continues to serve as "Sao Paulo", the only aircraft carrier currently serving in Brazil.

"Clemenceau" went through a major refit from September 1977 to November 1978. She was again refitted with new defensive systems from 1 September 1985 to 31 August 1987, including replacement of four of the 100 mm guns with a pair of "Crotale-EDIR" SAM systems.

Comparable with the aircraft carrier "Admiral Kuznetsov".

My model is built in the scale of 1: 350, for the construction took 1726 (1571) bricks.

Quoting Mark B. Beautiful model, especially with the deck full of micro aircraft. Great job on both the hull shaping and the details on the island.
Yes, small airplanes - the most important thing in a model )) Thanks, Mark!

Quoting Scott Bertaut Wow, this is a really nice looking aircraft carrier. The hull shaping is very good, and I really like all the mini planes, especially how some of them have "folding" wings. Now I'm sad though, seeing such a nice aircraft carrier makes me miss my USS JALAPI. One day I shall rebuild her, one day I tell you! Anyway, great work on this!
Thank You, Scott!

Quoting Chad V Excellent work as usual. Love the use of a 1970's vintage LEGO figure "hand" as the radar dome on the front of the Super Frelon. Also like the use of the 3 pointed rotor for swept wings on the Crusaders. All nice touches.

Quoting Lego Fire Museum Inc. This is superb! This almost makes me want to stop building fire engines and start building ships.
Thank you! Not a hindrance :) For example, on the deck of an aircraft carrier must be a fire truck. And there is also a special fire boats and ships :)

Quoting Seku Burris Wow this is epic! Great color scaling & model accuracy. The mini planes & helicopters were a very, very nice addition. They really added to the realistic-ness of the model as a whole. Also the use of yellow pieces as landing markings on the floor of the ship were also a very nice touch. Outstanding work here.
Thanks Seku!

Quoting Henrik Jensen Very nice miniature carrier! looks great with the flight deck loaded with aircrafts. A few things could relatively easy be improved: The angled flight deck, could be built as rectangular plate placed on turntables to achieve the correct angle, thus avoiding the zig-zag deck markings. The "air traffic control" windows on the bridge looks inaccurate compared to your reference pictures.
Thank you very much for your valuable comments, Henrik! I'm sure I will consider them in the modernization of the ship))
