Unbound by the passing of ages, a river flows past the relics of civilizations past.

Category: Water

I wanted to try something new with this category, so I went for a sunset over a river. I've always loved the "shattered glass" effect the light makes and wanted to recreate it in LEGO.

The forced perspective scene consists of 3 main parts: medieval, industrial, and modern on the right side. The left side is a continuous forest. This is a helicopter on top of the skyscraper for the modern part.

A factory + chimney smoke in the industrial part.

Mountain + watchtower in the medieval part. The idea was to create not just a forced perspective scene, but a sort of metaphorical one where the past was in the background, and the present in the foreground.

The whole scene. I want to be clear in that this MOC is really just the main picture. I wasn't comfortable only uploading one shot to a competition so I added the others. The main shot got the effect across the best, but it also was taken on my phone, so sorry for the bad quality.

There's a light brick behind the sun. It didn't work out as well as I thought it might.

Best of luck to my opponent, Roanoke! Can't wait to see what you come up with for this category. :]

Quoting City Creator Water that isn't blue? Might I say, an interesting choice, but it works well for the concept of your build. Otherwise, this build is quite lacking when compared to your opponent's builds. When he first said he was making multiple builds, I thought they would all have a connecting theme. In the end, my vote goes to you because there are some minor execution errors in your opponent's entry. Had he only posted the first or last build, he would have gotten my vote.
Fair enough. Thanks!
Quoting Commander Bricks You get my vote. That light brick effect did it for me.
Yay! Thanks. :)

I liked the forced perspective, but everything except the background and river, it's just colorless. For this reason your opponent gets my vote. Adding that reflection on the water was a nice touch though :)

I really like the concept here. A suggestion that would have helped is if you had expanded that background of the the sky and build a little wider the further back the MOC went so that you could have gotten the modernity section of the build in that first photo. This was really unexpected for a water category. There's absolutely no blue in it, and that is actually really interesting. Sadly, you know where this is going. Although I don't think all three builds are of the same caliper, Roanoke is getting my vote because of that last one.

Quoting D H Very unique and creative! Love the colors and the method for showing the sun and reflection. I actually like the second picture best as it zooms out a bit to let you see more of your neat detail.
Thanks! I like the second picture too but I feel like it blurs some of the details too much.

Quoting Mitchell Long Brilliant Work! I do think though that the focus of the build is more on the sunset rather then the water itself, but that is just my opinion. Good Luck with the Judges!
Thank you! I won't say if I agree with you or not just yet, but I do think the majority of the sunset is in the white that comes out onto the river. Good luck to you in your round too, sir!
