Helm's Deep
The battle of Helm's Deep from the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
About this creation
Here is my recreation of Helm's Deep from Lord of the rings. It took me about two months to build, and stands at more than 6 feet long, 2.5 feet wide, and 2 feet tall. It includes about 200 minifigures and was on display at BrickCon 2016 in Seattle.
I really enjoyed building this one, though it was quite rushed at times to finish it before the deadline. I plan to rework some of the rocks and interiors over the next few months before I hopefully bring it to Bricks Cascade in March. I'll let the pictures tell you the rest:

Last but not least, I would like to thank everyone that helped me out with this project, both in constant support and great suggestions and advice throughout the entire process. This would not have been possible without you guys:

Kevin Wanner (Brick Ninja)- A really awesome guy with experience building stuff this size, especially in the LOTR setting. He was always there to provide extremely helpful feedback on all of my WIP posts, and also helped out by bringing a decent number of minifigs to add to the battle. It was nice talking to him at BrickCon, and I'm very thankful for his support throughout this entire process. You should definitely go check out his stuff, he builds some really awesome MOCs!

Micah the Fire-breathing Hobbit- Also provided lots of helpful tips and feedback throughout the process on how I could make it more movie accurate and higher quality. Thanks Micah!

Jordan- Helped supply orcs for the army at BrickCon. Also gave me some helpful tips on how I could improve it.

TheMaestro2- Super enthusiastic about this project, always left a great positive comment on my WIPs!

D H, Justin Li, and Hildigrim Took - Awesome people I met and talked to a lot at BrickCon 2016.

Beyond the Brick- Thanks to them for interviewing me at BrickCon! I'll post a link to the video as soon as it comes out!

My parents, for bringing me to and from BrickCon and for not kicking me out of the house when Helm's Deep started taking up too much space :P Really, it wouldn't be possible without you.

I'm sure there are some people that I am forgetting, so I apologize if you're not on the list. It really took a ton of support to get this finished in time!

Thanks for looking!

Awesome build, the detail on this thing is amazing ;) I would recommend using not as many flats o the cave above the wall, because slants/bricks give it better texture. The reason I say this is I have done the same thing, and it didn't turn out as nice as I'd like it to be. Oh, BTW, your sig fig is on the last pic. :D

I posted an updated version of the rocks on flickr a while ago: https://www.flickr.com/photos/classicalbricks/34075288901 The reason why this version was so messy is because I had to throw the rocks back together in a day after they fell apart on their way to BrickCon 2016.

Quoting Lord.Qelvin . This is simply amazing. And HUGE! I love it. I like how you included Stormtroopers, that teddybear from toystory, and some others I don't know in the back of the build. I also saw some Technic motors in the back and a battery pack. What do they do?
Thanks a ton! The power functions control a couple of lights in the caves at the bottom.

Quoting Rove Random Nice work! Every bit as huge as the WIP pics suggested! The rockwork isn't the best, but I realize that's most likely due to piece deficiency. The color scheme is great (I envy your sand green collection), and it overall looks very polished. I'll also be at BricksCascade, so I'm looking forward to seeing this in person!
Thanks Rove! Yeah, I'm going to redo the rockwork for BricksCascade, so hopefully it will be better when you see it IRL.

Quoting D H Yeah I have to agree with the others, this is super impressive Classical! You've managed to build something iconic and huge and you kept up enough great detail so that upon closer inspection the various parts are still excellent. I think you've got the right idea in refining the couple portions you mentioned, as good as this is, I bet you'll find a way to make it even more amazing! The combo of this and Brick Ninja's black gate was special to see. It was awesome meeting you and the others and I hope to see you all at bricks cascade!
Thanks! Yeah, I had a great time at BrickCon and I can't wait for Bricks Cascade!

Quoting Jonathan Demers Incredible work classical!! So much to say. First, love the hornburg, excellent job on the detailing of the walls there. The main part of helm's deep is fantastic! Everything from the stairs to battlements, walkways, etc. all looks great. The only critique I have is with the ramp leading up to gate. It appears slightly "blockish" if you know what I mean. Anyways, great work man!
Thanks Jonathan! Yeah, the causeway was another part that I quickly rebuilt on Friday, I'm also going to rework that for Bricks Cascade.

Quoting Reese Hawthorne Very nice work, Classical! Much like your last large build, the scale is there, and that alone makes it impressive, but some smaller details could have been refined. However, with the sheer amount of rockwork there is using plates was a brilliant idea. Perhaps these could have been hinged and joined better, but for a build time of only two months this is impressive. Anyways, rambling over, this is overall a great build. Wish I could have seen it in person. Keep it up!
Thank you Reese! Yeah, the rocks looked much better when I had them built at home, but during packaging and transport, they entirely fell apart and I had to quickly rebuild them on Friday. I'm going to tear them down entirely and rebuild them for Bricks Cascade.
