WIP F-35A Lightning II (JSF)
A work-in-progress MOC of the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter.
About this creation
Okay guys, Ralph reviewed it, so it can't be that bad (or can it?) this is a lame-o blah boring piece-of-junk F-35 Lightning II. But I don't care, cause my friend built most of it! Yes, once again, this is Michael creating the page and Scotty editing with snippets of name-calling and other junk. Michael was the one to build this, he'd probably rather it wasn't posted, but for some dumb reason, he's sitting at his computer writing this! Must be the Communists...
You see, between Michael's Raptor and Jack's various stealth fighters, the most recent the F/A-38 Jaeger, stealth holds a monopoly on air territory. This is my first fighter built, as well as posted. With M and J each having an air-superiority fighter and an A-10 for Air-to-Ground work, I drew up a compromise and started on the Lightning.
The real life Lightning is a soon-to-enter-service stealth fighter built by Lockheed Martin. It won the contract for the Joint Strike Fighter program, outperforming the Boeing X-32 by considerable margins. It was designed in three variants:
F-35A-The Air Force version, the smallest, most maneuverable, and the only one with a built in gun. Slated to replace the F-16, and possibly A-10, but beings as it only has a 23mm cannon to the A-10's 30mm, not to mention you can't fly it with half the fighter blown off, that's kind of a ridiculous notion, in my opinion.
F-35B-The US Marine Corp VTOL version. This is about like the A, minus the gun and with an ingenious lift fan behind the cockpit driven by the engine. This, together with the vector able nozzle, allows for Vertical Take-Off Landing (VTOL). Some claim that the F-35 is only STOVL (Short Take Off Vertical Landing) capable, which may be so with a weapons load, but just type 'JSF' into the search bar on YouTube if you want VTOL proof. This is slated to replace the Marine's F/A-18 Hornets and AV-8 Harriers.
F-35C-The largest and heaviest of the three. Built for Navy carrier capabilities, the C has larger straiter wings (better for low speed approaches) and arrestor gear. Slated to replace most of the Navy's C/D Hornets and to supplement the E/F Superhornets.
Mine at this point is an A, but Michael's working on lift fan doors.

Front view. Intakes too big. Am forcing Michael to work on that too.

Side. Piece of junk, right?

Born in a barn or what? Where's your manners?! Nozzle.

Top. Like I really needed to notify you of that.

And the bottom, showing the ridiculous bomb bays. We're working on hinges with sharper angles, not to mention we found out that they're two part hinges, with the Air-to-Air missiles on the inside rack that opens kinda like we built it (only lots better), and the Air-to-Ground station above the other door, which opens out, hinges at the top, and it's curved all weird. There's a picture on Wikipedia's JSF page if you can't picture what I mean. Hey Scotty, how about building, say, a Curtis Jenny, or Sopwith Camel, something easy and simple like that...?

Nice, but not a 5. I do love the engine, but it does need to be able to tilt. Also, all 4 back wings need to be a bit bigger, and the front need to be a bit smaller. I like the bomb bays, but try to make the pivot points a bit further apart. I love the cockpit. Nice job. BTW: F-22s RULE!!

And now you can understand why over half of my proposed fighters are self-invented... I think if you made the intakes three studs across, instead of four, It would be a little better. I think I figured out how to do the vectoring nozzle, so next time we're at your house, remind me, and I'll see if you have the pieces. I thik It's just too incomplete. I think once it's complete, It should be 4/5.keep trying! ~ Jack

karta, Kavon Z's right, for a while it was going to be the F/A-22, but they switched it to the F-22A, but beings as there's only one variant, it just goes by F-22. As for the lift fan and vectoring nozzle, like was mentioned above, we're still working on that. I'm thinking they'll require some Bricklink-ed hinges, so it might be a little while. Ralph pretty much nailed my own opinion of the fighter. The intakes, apart from being too big, turned out just about perfect, but the rest reeaaally needs some help. We're still working on it though! Oh, Scotty, do you happen to have any of those new hinges, the ones with room for two of the little claw-grippers side-by-side? If so, get em all out, 'cause I think we'll use them on the weapons bays. -- -- Michael

Five stars if you give the rear engine downward thrust capabilites, add the center fan, and extra compliments if you add all the fancy little flaps that open up. Great job!. And I believe its just F-22. There's a poster of like 20 planes on my wal in my room but I'm too lazy to look. But I'm quite sure its just F-22.

not too bad at all - I have to agree with the person before me though, try a white ( or black ) background and put it on a table or some other object. Nice MOC!
