Here is my second attempt at a mini G1 Megatron
About this creation
I didn't really plan to build this guy, but decided to try building a mini Megs after seeing Bx Brix' mini Megatron model. As far as Lego Megatrons go, I think he turned out amazing. He is also incredibly sturdy for his size.

It's kinda funny that he has a better gun and robot mode than the bigger Megatron I posted back in May.

A bit ugly from this side, but it's still pretty accurate in my opinion.

Unfortunately I couldn't give him a trigger guard that would look good in both modes.

I am really in love with this gun mode.

I'm gunna need a bigger back drop pretty soon.

Transformation

His transformation is surprisingly accurate for his size.
I'm probably going to scale this design up to make a G1 Megatron that fits in nicely with my other transformers.

Start by removing his scope

now fold down his legs

push his barrel around

like so

now lift his up his chest to make room for his arm and shoulder transformation

begin rotating

spin this panel around

like so

push out his other arm to make room

same routine as the other arm

now rotate at the waist

push his chest back down. This dark grey 1x2 will prevent the 1x4 hinge bricks from flopping around.

now go around to the backside and lift his barrel up

rotate the head assembly

push it into place.

He is now transformed!

just give him his fusion cannon and we're all set

such a cutie

not as pretty from behind

all his joints are on balls so he's very posable

compared to my G1 inspired Megatron

comparison with my other transformers. Hopefully I'll make posts for v2 Bumblebee and Megatron in the coming weeks.

nice and pose-able.

He was a lot of fun to build so I'll definitely be making more mini G1 transformers.
Also if you guys have any suggestions for improvements, I'd love to see them! And let me know which mini I should build next :D

And just a little side note for the LDD file, the brick 18649 can't seem to be uploaded to bricklink, so I've changed it's color to red so it can be deleted or recolored.

Quoting nahtE 724 Incredible build. One EXTREMELY minor nitpick though, Megatron's Fusion cannon is typically mounted on his forearm, not his bicep. Easy fix though, swap the 2x2 plate on the right forearm with a 2x2 plate with a single stud in the center. Then you can mount the fusion cannon on the front of the forearm, like the G1 toy. Alternatively you could replace the 1x2 brick on the side of the arm with 2 headlight bricks joined by a jumper plate (attached to the sides) and then attach the fusion cannon to the side of the forearm, like occasionally in the G1 cartoon. But, like I said, MINOR nitpick. Over all the engineering in this build is AMAZING and I hope to see more stuff from you in the future.
Thanks. Honestly the fusion cannon was a last minute edition and probably could have been designed better. I built it right before taking the pictures and didn't really test to see how it would look in robot mode, I actually had to replace the 1x2 tile on his arm while taking transformation pictures with a 1x2 w/ 1 stud in order to attach the cannon, as I didn't notice there would be no way to attach it.

Quoting Bacon Tomato "not as pretty from behind" I can testify that the original toys had the same issue. Your Lego Megatron would be just as good, if only it had a face. I'm thrilled to see how well transformers can be imitated with Legos. I wish the Lego company would make Transformer sets this good.
I've also always wanted official Lego Transformers. Unfortunately Lego's official comment is they will not consider making Lego transformers :(

Quoting Grand Admiral Thrawn Simple yet effective, love the amount of engineering gone into this build. Gotta love those mixel joints!
It's such a shame mixels were discontinued. So many uncommon parts in those sets.

Quoting alex wong Great work! I really like the way you present the arms transformation.
Thanks Alex. Trying to make arms on G1 Megatron usually isn't easy :p

Quoting Daniel Ringuette Wow! I'm very impressed! Gun mode is fantastic and very smooth. The transformation is clever too! Robot mode is terrific and super posable! Excellent job on this mini Megs! BTW, that V2 Bumblebee is looking pretty cool so far! I like the improvements!
Thanks! Currently Bumblebee is looking more like a station wagon than a Volkswagen haha.

Quoting Bx Brix This is brilliant! I might play around with this and learn something lol
Thanks! I actually styled and scaled it around your transformers haha. I hope that's not weird :p
