It's been a while, I know! I've been trying to get back into the community over on the TTV Message Boards, and I've done some updates on some MOCs recently that I've been meaning to get pictures of.
I'm back today to inquire you all on something I've recently been debating on. I feel an issue with many of my MOCs is that they don't possess something truly unique about them. I feel my building is at a level right now where I can build the things I want to build in a way that looks pleasing, and I know I still have a ways to go to get better in that aspect (and parts...lots of parts), but I feel that I want to start focusing on the other aspects of MOCing that make something unique and have character.
That being said, I've been debating on doing a complete overhaul of many of my original MOCs, mostly the Doomed Toa. The aim would be to make them all less generic and more interesting. To start, I'm thinking I'm going to completely overhaul my self-MOC, Ghar from this:
into something like this:
This is Ghar as he is in my Dungeons and Dragons campaign, and I feel his overall look and demeanor is more unique than Ghar as he is now. Of course, I would tweak the design to be more Bionicle-like, but it's the basic look I'd go for. In turn I plan on altering Ari, Novan, and Liala, to fit with this new Ghar.
Now the reason I'm asking about this and not just doing it is because it'd be a massive change, and nearly irreversible should it not go right. I'm just looking for opinions and/or confirmation before I go ahead and completely overhaul the MOCs I've worked on for a year.
So, that's about it, let me know what you all think I should do, it'd be very much appreciated!
I would do it. If you're really worried about not being able to have a backup, kill some filler MOCs for extra parts and make a new body (this is a complete overhaul after all; you only need a couple pieces from the OG Ghar). To be completely honest, if you really want Ghar to look something like that, the easiest way would be to go with cloth/leather to get the straps and stuff. Please go through with it though, as it would make an interesting project.
Wow, Mr. Pakari here posts something and revives three people.
I'd say go ahead with the idea, it seems interesting, and I think it's cool how you use your self-moc in more than just lego. (coughrunequestcoughissupperiorcoughtodndcoughcough)
I'd really like that tbh, but please be a bit more active on Flickr, that's free attention with your skill and rep, and an easy platform to improve with. You don't have to leave mocpages like I and many others more or less have but it's be nice at least.
That DnD design does look really good though!
Okay two things, 1.I'd say go ahead with the idea (would love to see how it would look) if you think that is what will be best for the Mocs (I think that makes sense. And 2.That drawing is freakin amazing...I feel a little jealous about it now...a bit...
I like it

Hm... interesting. I like the look of the planned future Ghar, and I find a team of similar looking beings to be agreeable with me. I would, however, add something to this future Ghar to make it obvious that he's a Toa of Earth, other than the color scheme. I say go for it, pal!
I cant spoil anything (story stuff) but I am actually doing this kind of thing right now with a few of my mocs. all I have to say is do it if you want to. if the character doesn't turn out, refine them till you do. thats the joy of mocing: you can take back anything you do that isn't a permanent mod. but, ultimatly it is up to you. do what you think is right
