I know that I'm late on MOCpages, but I posted on time on Flickr, because me and my brother share a computer.
About this creation
Pirates are always a threat to the sea-faring Enalicans. Show your character participating in a battle against pirates, either on the high seas or from the coast. At least one boat or ship must be featured in your build.
Opponent: Brick Ninja LINK
Story: Jake trudged in the sticky jungle. To find a pirate sounded simple, but it was taking longer than he thought. He heard voices coming through the foliage, distant, but they were there. He couldn't see through the thick grass, so he climbed the nearest tree and looked through his telescope. Pirates! Finally, he thought. He prepared himself for combat and took off through the jungle. He arrived, they were busy digging. He caught them by surprise and the first guy was down in an instant. The second pirate pulled out his shovel, Jake slashed quickly and swiftly. "Alas! My task is completed, and the seas are that much safer!"
So my original plan for this build was actually quite different. I was going to have it be a foggy night out in the middle of the sea, with the ship struck against a rock. The plan was for a minifig sized ship, but my thoughts were very quixotic. Turns out that I don't have nearly enough pieces for that size of a ship, so I went with a slightly smaller, micro-scale ship, and use forced perspective, which hopefully worked well. I was going to make the whole sea background with clear studs, but I didn't have enough of those either, but I like how the final product turned out. Thanks for looking and God bless! Good luck to Brick Ninja!
Wowsy Soccer Socks! Superb work with this forced perspective, I love how well this has been thought-out and assembled. Excellent job with that sailing ship, I've seen some of those in my day, but this one really blows them all away (sorry for the pun and rhyme contained within that sentence ;) ). The only thing that could have made this better would have been to completely eliminate the white background, but I understand the pieces that that would have required. All around, you've done an exceptional job with this build, please keep it up! God bless, ~Promar~
I love the scene! Really great micro ship and slick details. Of course it would have been nice to fill the frame with the blue background, but it was enough for me to get the idea completely, and a very cool look!
I've been staring at these for days. And don't take this light heatedly when I cast my vote with just a few sentences behind it, but I really did think this through. I think the presentation of Soccor's build is much better, lighting is better overall. Ninja needs to work on his photos a bit more for future mocs, no need wasting a good moc with bad photos. Soccor's was definitely more packed with details, though that doesn't mean that is actually has more overall (Just the concentration of them). I think that Ninja has some good detailing too, just more spread out over the moc. Comparing mocs of this size has always been difficult, but I think because Ninja doesn't have anything in his moc that is particularly bad, and has good details throughout, that it outweighs the concentration of details in soccor's build. My vote is for Brick Ninja.
Oh, good you posted this on MP, makes judging much easier for me ;) Nice job to both of you, Soccer, you definitely went for more of an artistic look, while Brick Ninja went with a colossal pirate ship. To save all suspense, he gets my vote. The over all size and detail won me over. Soccer: While I do like the fp and the ship I think the beach could have been more detailed, maybe with a dock or a hole with a treasure chest! However, as it is, good job both of you, and good luck with the final judge!!
