Micropolis Town 2016
Micropolis Town built in 2016. (Pictures have been enlarged)
About this creation
Well, I said I got into Micropolis, and while I haven't done a building by building set of pictures yet, I figured I'd at least get the aggregate posted here finally.

The buildings, front to back and left to right by quarter block, are as follows:

First block, front row: Wind Turbine, Promontory Point Lighthouse, Board Walk, and the Frank A. Romano III Coastal Aquarium.
First block, back row: Water Tower, Promontory Path, Grand Hotel, Sara L. Wing Memorial Library (old converted manor), and Neil DeGrasse Tyson Planetarium.
Second block, front row: Lego News / Lego Travel agency (tenement building), Mixed use art gallery and office building, seaside condominiums, parking deck, Order of St. Luke's Chaplain's Hospital, Office Building
Second block, back row: Office Building, U.S. Post Office - Micropolis, Architect's Firm, Office Building, Medical Building, Residential Apartment Building
Third block: Bank, St. Francis' Episcopal Church (with graveyard)
Unattached: Water Tower II, Daniel Patrick Moynihan City Hall

*A few of the items are named after people who I admire or had big influences in my life.

While we typically use the TwinLUG standard, I do tend to deviate from it on two counts, one I tend to be bad about putting in the 1x4 technic bricks to connect them, using the road tiles instead. The other is that, having no fondness for the "Kansas" look, I've started sculpting my town to be more of a east coast look, think North Carolina or Virginia, with some rocky points and some barrier island beaches. I sank the beaches down some to get some coastal effect and of course added waves and buoys to the water (1x1 nose cones + a crystal red 1x1 pip does a great job). It makes me happier to have some variety on elevation. At some point I'm going to elevate the town hall but I'm out of 16x16 green plates.

The last photo is from Brickblast 2016 as it was being set up to merge with the rest of our LUG's creations. We're lucky to have a number of people who have one or two blocks each and two or three of us who have numerous blocks. It means that just about every event has some Micropolis show up, though to date we've never had it all together at once.

Reminds me of home. I lived on the east coast my entire life until 2 years ago. Really great build.

Quoting Jeremy McCreary From the detail and choice of features, I can tell that this was a labor if love. Wilmington, NC comes to mind for me. (In fact, I'll be passing through there in a month on the way to Holden Beach.) Especially love the waves and the first row back from the beach.
Our LUG VP has accused me of being corrupted by the micropolis. I got very into it last summer and still make new ones occasionally. Every building here has a reason and a history behind it. Some are personal, some are silly, but if you notice the names attached to many of them, it's a very personal city. You're right, it is based heavily on the style of area that you'd see in Wilmington, N.C. I debated going to graduate school there back when I did Biology, but that was long ago and far away. (The other schools I debated were in Maine, New Hampshire, and Alabama.)
