Here is my third attempt at a transformable G1 Bumblebee. definitely one of my new favorite Lego Transformers
About this creation
Here's G1 Bumblebee compared to Mini G1 Megatron and my WIP v4 Optimus Prime.
as you can see he's closely scaled to Optimus.

I really love this car mode. It is a huge improvement over my last version, and it actually somewhat resembles a Volkswagen.

the backside isn't too pretty.

compared to a minifigure and one of my work in progress builds

to transform him start by flipping up the 1x2 hinges on his back, and pushing down the frontside of his car

now pull down his legs and rotate his thighs so the black 1x2s on his legs face the front (though I forgot to do this while transforming him) and now fold out the wheel panel. I've added some arrows to the pictures to better explain what I mean.

now rotate at the elbow of his arms and lift his upper body where his legs connect.

now rotate at the upper 1x2 hinge

as you can see there is just enough clearance

now move his shoulders up

his shoulders are attached to a rounded 1x1 with clip, rotate them on stud friction.
now rotate at the lower 1x2 hinge on his body

move the panel his wheels are connected to, and adjust them to look less ugly

not too shabby

as you can see I forgot to rotate his thigh at the beginning of his transformation. the black 1x2 should be facing the front of his body.

now fold the panels on the back of his legs in

and now he's transformed. His transformation was pretty heavily inspired by the masterpiece toy, particularly the panels that his wheels are connected to and how they hide his arms. The way his legs extend is also fairly similar to the masterpiece, though I had to make some changes due to his very small size.

unlike my last version he has full articulation in his arms, and fairly good articulation in the legs.

I am absolutely in love with this robot mode.

he scales fairly well with my Work In Progress V4 Optimus Prime (which now has hands built into the transformation, plus proper feet and larger wheels)

I'm having trouble with the LDD file at the moment so the LDD file included will have a slightly different windshield design that is flat. fixing is extremely easy as all you have to do is delete the medium azure 1x4 brick and the yellow 1x4 plates behind it, and replace them with two translucent sloped 2x2s, otherwise the file is the exact same as the shown above.

Nice work. Scales very well with the mini Megatron. Also, Visible head syndrome. Even still though, Great job.

Quoting Jack Sparrow When I first saw this I thought no way it could look good. I was wrong. You did an outstanding job getting Bumblebee to look great in such a tiny package! :-)
Haha thanks.

Quoting Justin Li It's crazy you pulled this off at such a small scale. Good job!
Thanks!

Very impressive that such a tiny build can transform like that. Great work!

Quoting Bx Brix This is really good work! I'm still stuck on my G1 classic bee. Your engineering is extremely impressive! Good use of stud friction also!
Thanks! That really means a lot to me coming from you haha. You've gotta love those new rounded 1x1 clip connectors, they really allow for a lot of connections that might otherwise not be possible.

Quoting StudentScissors BioMOCer Huh, I tried to comment earlier. Doesn't seem to have worked. I like the complexity you were able to fit into the Bumblebee. And I'm legitimately very exited to see that Movie Optimus completed.
Thanks! I really like the Optimus design and felt I needed to sneak him into this post even though he's only half completed haha. I'd post an LDD file for him but I'm not near a PC (or my Lego collection) at the moment. And that's a very annoying bug, and now I'm curious if any of my comments or comments for me are missing lol

Quoting Daniel H. Will you be sharing an LDD file for Movie Op when you post him? I'd love to build him myself. And I think I'll build this Bee too! It's the best mini G1 Bee I've seen.
I'll try to add LDD files for all my transformers :^). It'll probably be around a week or so until I can add an LDD for movie Optimus as I'm currently away from home, but if you wanna try building him he's more or less just a modified version of Seth Higgins and ixrolloutix's design. And I'm glad you like Bumblebee so much!

Quoting Daniel H. OH MAH GAWSH! So fre@king awesome!! I love it! Amazing work man!
Thanks! I've been working on him on and off since I posted mini Megs back in December. And movie Optimus is more or less complete, he just has a few gaps in truck mode (conveniently covered by the joker minifig) that I need to find a way to fill.

Quoting alex wong This is a perfect rendition of the G1 original toy! Fantastic.
Thanks! Both his modes definitely resemble the toy. Though his transformation is more inspired by the masterpiece than the original toy, I tried my best to give some improved articulation while keeping the classic style

Quoting Captain Kenbo Very awesome! But I am interested in that movie Optimus as well... I didn't see pictures of him on your page..
He should be done pretty soon, he just has a couple gaps in truck mode that I'm not too happy with. Otherwise he is a pretty heavily modified version of Seth Higgins and ixrolloitix's design.

Quoting Daniel Ringuette Ridiculously awesome! The transformation engineering is very clever! I really love robot mode! His articulation is fantastic and he looks spot on! Vehicle mode looks just like the original toy! It's difficult to get the VW shape, but you did a nice job, especially considering the scale. Brilliant work! I can't wait to see your next Prime!
Thanks Daniel! Shouldn't be too long until my Primes are finished. You've always got something nice to say :D

Not bad! Robot mode's a little stubby looking (not sure how he looked in the old show) but it's hard to get a good vehicle mode, and a good robot mode. Vehicle mode: 5/5 robot mode: 3.7/5
