A French guard tower to protect the realm from invaders. This is my 50th MOC posted to MOCPages.
I was bored this week and while still frustrated with a few of my other in progress builds, I grabbed a pile of the large pieces (I think of them as panels) and started building. I had already built the roof as a test design for another project, and I built the top half of the tower Thursday evening, finishing the rest this morning. All told, maybe about three hours of build time.
The tower stands 27 inches tall (68.5 cm), though it is less than one full baseplate in size. That makes it my second tallest MOC, behind Dragon Tooth Keep, and just a touch taller than The Pharos of the Sun, my other tower.
Almost all the pieces are either panels or oversized bricks (2x2x2 or bigger) so it really isn't that many pieces. I wasn't going for anything in particular, just a chance to use up a number of those bulkier parts that I don't care for much when working on my more detailed designs. The big parts and quick build means there's nothing inside, and unlike a lot of my designs lacks hidden features. It's just for show. My only concern was stability given the weight of the roof.
The tower roof is Norman in design and was originally built to test a design idea for another project. it worked better here.
The people are ones I was putting together from the local LEGO store from assorted parts in the mini-figure bins. The French fleur de lis matches well with the parts from the Juniors set that make up the door and the walls at the base, so I opted to use them though I'm still looking for the right hats to finish them off. Ideally I want some black tri-corner hats with white or blue feathers. I made six of these in total.
