As you can see, I’m still sticking to my weekly schedule impeccably! 'allo all, I be back with a new creation! This one's a very obscure character of mine that I decided to recreate, though with a little added flare... Enjoy!
About this creation
Okay, so this character's backstory ties in with an earlier MOC I made, Karahe, the Beastly Hagah.
Also prominent in this backstory is Caius, a character that belongs to Sean /EMMSixteenA4.
"I was very lucky to still have my wits, despite what had been done to me- as much as I cherish that, I would have sacrificed it all to have saved my friends..."
-Hemsut’s dying words, spoken to Caius on Spherus Magna.
Daughter Hemsut:
Hemsut was a Toa Hagah of Jungle, part of the team that served to protect the Makuta named Aroxion. She was considerably more rebellious and cynical than her fellow teammates, though it was her only friend, Toa Karahe, that kept her in check. He often brought out her kindness, something that was lost when she became a beast; unlike her peers, she retained her sanity, though a terrible bloodlust would compel her to violence. Her intelligence, terrifying strength and devastating Great Scythe rendered her a foe to be feared.
Hemsut was quite famously elusive about her origins, and it became a sort of game among her team to guess which Island she hailed from; the general consensus is that she became a Toa on the Southern Continent, and was whisked away to Destral as a result of some great deed to become a Toa Hagah. She received her elite Hagah armour and a ceremonial Great Scythe, the latter she became deeply fond of. She was assigned to guard the petty Makuta Aroxion, and she very quickly became known as the most brazen of her team; she was not afraid to openly speak out against her master, repeatedly challenge the team leader, or leave her post for long periods of time to follow her own whims.
With this in mind, it would seem rather odd that Hemsut would bond so closely with Karahe, a toadying Toa of Stone who followed Aroxion’s edicts without question. It is unknown what exactly drew her to him, but she was uncharacteristically kind to him; while he calmed her rebellious nature, she taught him the value of free thought and the thrill of transgression. It seems that she also had an effect on the rest of the team, as at the time they were beginning to grow deeply suspicious of the Brotherhood of Makuta’s increasingly insidious activities. This tension culminated when Toa Norik’s Hagah Team raided the Destral Fortress and stole the Mask of Light; Aroxion especially began to panic, growing more fearful of his untrustworthy team by the day.
Thus, Aroxion handed his team over to his peer; Makuta Astrok, a particularly twisted Brotherhood scientist. She took the Toa and injected them with a vicious mutagen; though Karahe managed to escape Astrok’s clutches, the rest were transformed into terrible beasts. Hemsut in particular kept her intelligence, perhaps due to her commendable resilience, which made her a suitable commander for Astrok’s monstrous attack squad. She of course still detested working for the Brotherhood, and her sense of morality remained in check, though she would regularly succumb to bouts of bestiality, causing her to mindlessly slay all who stood in her way. Hemsut served as Astrok’s lieutenant for many years, with a great many deaths to her name.
She would finally abandon Astrok when her team was sent into an unprotected Matoran village in order to massacre them. While the other beasts engaged mindlessly in the slaughter, Hemsut was overwhelmed with grief and split with the group. She was not seen for a good many years after that; she had apparently travelled all the way to Spherus Magna, murdering those who got in her way, for she was still plagued by her insatiable rage. She then resided in a lonely desert on the planet, hoping to isolate herself from all life so as to not cause any more harm.
This seemed to work for a while, but eventually she was found by another: the grim Toa Caius, a warrior charged with purging all of the corrupted Toa Hagah from the universe. Hemsut had heard of this being and knew why he was there; though she agreed that she had to die, something inexplicable compelled her to fight against him. The two scythe-wielders duelled throughout the night, Hemsut having the strength to dominate her foe throughout the majority of the fight; at one point, Caius had to retreat and tend to many deep wounds before returning to the fight. With all new vigour, the Toa managed to gradually wear Hemsut down and fell her with several fatal blows.
As she lay dying, Hemsut told Caius of her forlorn tale, expressing deepest regret for what she had done and imploring his forgiveness. Once she was dead, Caius buried the body, leaving a humble memorial at the spot where she had passed before resuming his grizzly, thankless charge.

Here we go! So as I said in the introduction, this is acually based off an old MOC, which I don't think I ever properly posted: you can see a snippet of her in this very old, crappy comic that didn't survive the great MOCpages crash of 2011. But you don't need to worry about that, because this is a completely rebooted version of her with a completely different story!

So, the main inspiration for doing this revamp (aside from one commenter bringing her up after so many years) was a chat between I and MOCpages newbie Alice Rieker, who challenged me to make a MOC using exclusively Bionicle G1 parts. This was a challenge I accepted! With the exception of some modern socket pieces in the shoulders, this MOC uses no CCBS whatsoever.

To me it seems that this MOC really shines at the profile, hence this third overview shot.

Alice also inspired me to make this particularly bulky scythe design too, as she was taking the Mick out of my previous scythe designs and I wanted to show her up for it!

Mourning the death of her old friend Karahe.

Height comparison with Umarak the Destroyer- they're virtually the same height- she's taller than a typical Toa build, though not by a whole lot.

Case in point- Hemsut clashing with Toa Cilla.

Artist's interpretation of the taunt that inspired me to make this bigass scythe.

Stood with Apothrahk, another servant of the Brotherhood.

Stood with Astrok; daughter with mother.

That's all folks! :D

Beautiful use of G1 parts, as you know its a stipler of mine that Im somewhat of a G1 purist, so this really feels at home being called a BIONICLE in my books!
PS... Ditolak's scythe STILL dwarfs hers! |

how do you not stuff up the edges of the build when photoshoping?
For that particular picture I did not go around with a pen tool/eraser, I used a chroma key tool, the Colour to Alpha tool on GIMP- it's essentially an automatic thing where it gets rid of the background- you need a green screen or a white box in order to do it though, where the background is just one solid colour. |

I like this quite a bit. I'm not a fan of how the silver mixes with the dark blue and green. I do think some areas look awkward as well, like the shoulders, they seem kinda pinched. This does, however, overall use some awesome techniques, particularly the legs.
Thanks Windfall! Yeah, I added the silver retrospectively, as there was already a lot of grey technic, and I used the silver to try and make that look more deliberate. The proportions were deliberate, however, the raised shoulders and the legs showing how she's been bent and twisted out of shape with her mutations. Thanks again, Windfall! :D |
