For this build I was tasked too build the everyday happenings in Erebor. My first thought was to recreate this image

As you may be able too tell I of course made changes. First of all I made Smaug asleep on his side, since thats most likely what he'd be doing on a day to day bases. I also added a large stone statue and some window things.

Close up of Smaug

Even closer close up of Smaug

Overhead shot of Smaug slumbering on his treasure

The statue and the walls

The statue in its entirety

Dwarven Runes

Smaug on his own without treasure

That's pretty cool and it matches the cover nicely, but I do feel you could have added more detail to Smaug.

Hi there, A fun build and a pretty good representation of the book cover. I think you should rebuild Smaug, that would improve the build the most for me. The rest fits the cover pretty good. Greetz, Elio

A great scene! I love that you've captured smaug in micro, and had some great ideas of how to do it with the treasure!

Great entry! This is not the best build from a technical point of view, but from the athmosphere and the Tolkien feeling this is by far my favorite entry in this round! Thanks a lot for that! I have never seen anyone before building Tolkien's famous piece of art before. You captured the colors and the athmosphere of it perfectly! I really love the dragon! Sadly there are some parts of this entry which look a bit simple or have a lack of detail (like the dwarven statue), so in the end your opponent's technical great entry won my vote. Still a solid entry though, I'm glad that someone made this scene!

As much as I really admire the ruins, I had to go for your opponent on this one simply because his build is more polished. Thank you for competing in the MELO and we hope to see you back next time.

Very good work, and I like the interpretation of the famous book cover. However sections seem lacking in detail/are too smooth. In the end my vote goes to you opponent.

Yep... My old copy of the hobbit has this illustration on the front. Very nostalgic.
