MELO 2017 Round 4: Oliver Becker vs. Carter Witzenburg
Orthanc Bracket - Harad. The vast lands of Harad were to find south of Gondor and Mordor. Harad means "South" in Sindarin. The country is an alliance of many sultanates and it's divided in Near (northern)and Far Harad, crossed by the Harad road. In the south there should be a great green wildernes and a jungle, where apes and the famous mūmakils live.
About this creation
On the map left a part of the Bay of Belfalas with the natural harbour of Umbar, in the third age ruled by corsairs. East of Umbar you can find the city of Karna. The mountains in the north-east are the border to Khand.

I liked to build a typical Hardrim warrior as he exists in my fantasy. These are great bowmen and also good with the sword and the lance/spear. My second wish was to create a landscape of the "known" northern parts of Harad, The Haradwaith, as the books tell us...

Enjoy and have FUN! ;)

My opponent ! Good luck to you, Carter!

Quoting Reese Hawthorne Man, this is excellent work! I love all the parts you put into this build; that tiny mumakil is pretty fantastic.
Hey Reese, that's a very kind comment! Thanks much! Maybe you should do judging next year? ;)

Quoting Mark McPeek This is outstanding! I'm kinda shocked you did not advance, because I love your unique take on the category with a map (I've been wanting to do one like that for a while) and your BBF is incredible. Great work!
Thanks for this very kind consolation, Mark! The judges weren't your opinion, but it's OK as it is... ;)

Quoting El Barto ! Insane! So many details to enjoy here, Chief! Love that bow, especially!
Hahaha, thanks Bart! I'm glad you've enjoyed it so much! For the bow I checked several versions, this one with the "elephant trunks" I liked the most, they match Harad with their mumakils best! And so I used these pieces also in other places here... ;)

Quoting Michael Kringe Hi Oliver! Excellent build, I really like the many little details you added such as the Harad letters and the map! I feel the map itself looks a bit "unready" though. The Harad soldier has too much of a Bionicle look for my taste, but you used really clever building techniques for your BBF once again! In the end it was really close because of your unique BBF, but I vote for your opponent because of the more balanced look of his MOC. It was an honor judging your MOCs, your Tom Bombadil is one of my favorite portrayals of him here on MOCpages! I hope you're still around for future contests! Keep Mocin'!
I've foreseen that and that's OK! Now you boys are between yourselves and "the kids are allright"! (The Who) You're all no great fans of BBFs and you don't have much experience with them! You've expected MOCs in minifig- scale here and you're producing them on and on... But there's more you can do with the bricks, and that's good so! In this harradrim- fig there are 7 bionicle-pieces and I haven't counted how many other "normal" ones. I don't like the bionicle stuff, but I've learned to use some interesting ones for a combination. The map is b.t.w. more "animated" than those to find in the internet... Harad is a vast desert region in the north and the middle, everything I know from Tolkien is THAT! So after I'd done my job lookin' at your anouncements, I would do it again in no other way! I wish my successful oponent all the best here! And the kids are allright... ;)

Quoting Brick Ninja You have an excellent brick built figure, filled with lots of details. The map is also good, I like the micro scale, god-view that it creates. Unfortunately it suffers from portions being rather plain. The micro Mūmakil, and Corsair are good additions. In the end however I think you may have been better to focus on one item then doing the two. In the end my vote goes to your opponent.
Thanks BN. Think about this as a display at an exhibition, maybe you would see in in another way. Who made the law that a MOC must be 1 piece? Anyway, more Harad I couldn't present in a MOC... ;)

Quoting Ben Cossy These weapons are just killer! Really like that bow, great work :)
Hahaha! That's another nice way to show how much "like" is there... ;) Thanks very much, Ben! As I told Werewolff before, there was much consideration about that fictional culture of the Harad! Also it should fit in form and coloring to the warrior...

Quoting Werewolff . Great work mate! The map is incredibly well done, but those weapons really take the cake for me! Awesome work, and good luck!
Glad you like it so much, Werewolff! I had some thinking how haradrim weapons could be made with the bricks, at last I'm kinda happy with the results... You allways have to go with what's in store! ;)

Quoting Carter Witzenburg Nice build! A very unique choice of build. Both parts were done quite well, but it doesn't seem like one creation. I wish the map and the figure looked like they belong as one build, not separate. Though the letters do help to an extent. Altogether a really cool creation. Good luck!
Thanks Carter! Sorry if you don't see my MOC as one, it's everything to the item... ;) I started to build the Harradrim, then I got more and more ideas to build. So the map, the "interior", the text, the compass rose. The fig isn't at the map cause it would be to complicated for me bad photographer to get this sharp at all... ;) I posted the bowman as a plug, so he's in the mainpic. Good luck too!

Quoting The Grey Man Marvellous compass rose and bow.
Thanks GM, what would a map be without a fine compass rose... ? ;) The bow had to make several steps of "evolution", finally it had to be stable to be able to be hold by the fig, so I chosed an outer cable where the arrow could be fixed... I liked to use the elephant trunk piece several times, a tribute to the Mumak's indeed... ;)

Hahaha, thanks so much, my friend! Maybe it's a "Harad- hotchpotch" as I liked to post in it all I mean to know about this item... ;) The Harradrim of course is the most labor-intensive part of this MOC... ;)
