About this creation

The Great and Awesome Middle Earth Lego Olympics!

My Opponent the short Classical bricks (Those of you who don't know his name wont get this ;)

My Catagory=Angmar

After seeing this category i kinda panicked because angmar isnt in any of the movies and is barely in the video games. So i delved into fan art renditions of Carn Dm i found that most of them have it high in the mountains (like it says in the books) so, the black around the castle/gate is empty space. At first i was going to build it looking more Mordorish but i realized that this wasn't in Mordor and it needed a different architectural style. so i built this in the one hour of time i had :P

Excellent work here Joel! Really like the interesting stonework detailing (especially the combining of two tones of gray) and the isolated islands. The darkness looks more like thick, dark soup, but I think the only better thing would be to use smokey, transy gray instead of black (might give it less of a solid feel). Either way, really like how it turned out. Thanks for posting! God bless, ~Promar~

I too thought it was a lake, but I also thought it looked eerie and suitably evocative of Mordor. Without being mordor, if you see what I mean...

Simple build, yet clean! Sorry it appears you didn't have much time to work on this as I'm sure you could have expanded on this solid kernel given your talent!

Apologies for the delay. This was a close match, but in the end the overall quality of your opponent's build won him my vote. Thank you for competing and congratulations on making it this far.

A little boring with all that black, I know you can do it better remembering the last round, Joel! I like the walls- surface, but the gate is to big or the arch is to small to be stable for a fortress... But for a build in short time you've reached much here. That's just critic, not more. Go on like in you further build, where's much more character in it... ;)

Cool! I really like how you made the bricks stand out like that on the walls :-)

Wow, this is a really close match. I compared the two MOCs like 5 or 6 times and was still not sure which one to give my vote. I think your building doesn't really look like up in the mountains, more like in a big black lake (which still looks cool) but in the end you get my vote. Good luck with the 3rd judge!

Awesome Joel! Good job finishing in time! I really like the rockwork chunks in the midst of the black! The stonework is also really nice! Keep it up and good luck! :D

This is a good build. The castle wall has nice detail and texture. I found the floating islands in black kind of cool, but I also thought they didn't really fit well in this build. I really like the door and archway, where it is more 'M' shape, rather than a standard curve. It seemed a little odd that some of the brick work was dark gray, but overall a very nice build. However in the end my vote is going to your opponent.
