Another old character from early Racta Magnan lore! You might know this guy better for who he became: Takathorax, member of the Contenders! Yes, I've always mentioned Thorax in the Toa of Light's backstory, though up until now I've never shown what he might have looked like. So I hope you enjoy! :D
About this creation
Check out Takathorax here, the MOC this one was based off!

“I became a Toa of Fire to battle the Sombrak. I became a Toa of Light to fight Aroxion. And that’s all I am; a weapon used against the Sombrak. When they’re all gone, what will become of me?”
-Takathorax, The Contenders #13

Thorax:
Thorax was a Toa of Fire who fought in the Days of Shadowed Magna, and the one who would eventually become Takathorax, the Toa of Light. While Takathorax would become renowned for his stoicism and merit as a cool-headed leader, Thorax was very much different; a thug at heart, he had no time for his cautious superiors and preferred to rush straight into battle, leaving his weighty Flame Blade to do the strategizing. It was only with age that this brash Toa would develop a sense of responsibility and self-reflection.

Contrary to convention, Thorax was not born an Av-Matoran. He was one of the many Ta-Matoran in the very first Racta Magnan settlement, lead by Toa Trokan. His profession was manual labour, and thus had a very rough and working-class attitude; he’d engage in fistfights often and treated all he met with fierce aggression. When he was approached by a young Toa named Raxonax, he promptly told his guest exactly where to shove his offer to become a Toa. Raxonax explained that their city was at war with the Makuta Sombrak, led by the diabolical Aroxion; they would need as many Toa as possible to overcome their threat. It would only be once the Sombrak themselves attacked Thorax’s neighbourhood that he agreed to become a Toa.

Once he had been transformed with a Toa stone, Thorax rushed to the front line; he was initiated into the Toa Racta, a team led by Trokan’s advisers, Onika, Korapa and Parah; thus the conflict known as the Days of Shadowed Magna began. Thorax insisted that he be the one to take on the Sombrak leader alone, out of revenge for his destroyed home; the other Toa denied him this honour, rightly stating that it would clearly be suicide. Nevertheless, during a clash with the Sombrak, Thorax immediately sought out Aroxion and clashed with him; the Toa was naturally thrashed, the Makuta leaving him for dead. After he was rescued and restored to health by the Toa Racta, Thorax expressed much guilt over the matter, admitting that he was not strong enough for the conflict. It was soon after this that he found a golden Kanohi Hau buried in the sand.

What Thorax did not know was that the Mask belonged to an old Toa of Light who was killed in the war with the Gostoks, and thus radiated with the power of light. Thorax carried the mask around with him throughout countless battles, waiting for his next clash with Aroxion so that he could use it for boosted shielding. When they finally clashed again, Thorax took out the golden Kanohi and prepared to put it on when Aroxion hit it with an energy blast; instead of destroying it, the blast only intensified the mask’s own powers. Thus when Thorax put it on, the energy enveloped him and turned into a Toa of Light; this gave Thorax the power to defeat Aroxion and win the war. Though the Makuta escaped, the Toa of Light promised that he would be the one to finally kill him. In the aftermath, Thorax dubbed himself Takathorax, an allusion to the legendary Takanuva.

Takathorax would continue to serve as a Toa for many years following, maturing and gaining a sense of responsibility over time. Though he was present in the final battle with Aroxion, Takathorax was not the one to deliver the killing blow as he had promised. He instead targeted the Makuta’s son, Reshak, though he eventually realised the flaw of his obsession.

He and Reshak died together on the battlefield many years later; the last of the Sombrak was defeated and Takathorax’s destiny was fulfilled.

Overview! Fun fact, I made a Thorax MOC before I ever heard of MOCpages, back in 2009; No photos exist of it as far as I know, though just imagine Jaller Mahri with Inika shoulders and Maxilos' Mask and you'll have something that looks very similar.

Back. I originally set out to build something very similar to the original MOC I described, but in the end I wanted to make him look more like the last version of Takathorax, to show that these two are in fact the same person.

His Flame Blade! This of course is not based off any real world weapon, but think of something crossed between a spear, broadsword and greataxe; a real hard-hitting tool for inflicting close and personal damage.

No this isn't a Tahu clone... shut up...!

Stood with the other Not-Tahu-Clone, Toa Krode!

Fighting Apothrahk

Facing off against his arch-rival, Makuta Aroxion.

Reunited with his allies, the Contenders!

Though one may die, their legacy is immortal...

That's all folks! see you next friday!

...and yeah, I know calling a character 'Thorax' is as silly as calling them 'Torso', but gimme a break! My 11-year-old self wasn't too good at names...

Quoting Toa Gaim Awesomesauce! Toa Hiroshi:"A Toa of Fire to Light, fitting since each of the six elements creates light in their own way to illuminate the darkness."
Thanks Gaim! Yeah, that's kind of the way I approached it- I've treated fire here as an 'impure' form of light, with light energy 'dampened' by thermal energy.

Quoting Traykar the swift This is legit! The torso is great, and the color scheme works really well. My main issue would have to be the weapon, it just looks odd.
Thanks Traykar! Glad you like the torso and colour scheme- yeah, as I said, the weapon isn't really based off anything in the real world- I wanted it to have the same colour scheme as Thorax, so it meant my parts were kinda limited- but I like what I came up with, personally.

Thanks man! Yeah, I think the legs and torso especially turned out well, and with the colour scheme I was trying to create that OG Toa of Fire feel!

Quoting Windfall the Wanderer Nice! I like how the backstory is evened out. And how similar he looks to his light form.
Thanks Windfall! Yeah, it was tempting to just copy paste Takathorax's bio, but I felt I should take the opportunity to flesh out the first part of his life. I also tried to make sure he looked very similar to Takathorax too, for obvious reasons.
