1989 Batwing
About this creation
Batman (1989) remains one of my favourite superhero movies to date. The look and feel that Tim Burton gave these movies was something unique.

It also introduced some iconic designs in the Batman universe such as the famous Batmobile. There was however another Bat vehicle in the movie that also looked excellent; The Batwing. I mean who can forget the iconic moon scene?

Having already built my version of the 89 Batmobile I wanted to give the Batwing a try. As with most bat vehicles this version has been build in Lego before quite a considerable amount of times but as you all know by now I always endeavor to make my vehicles as close to minifigure scale as possible.

Unlike most builds the Burton Batwing was actually a rather small vehicle actually being shorter in length than the Batmobile. Having to build in such small a scale was however made almost impossible due the fact that there isn't a suitable Lego cockpit that would work with such dimensions, but I did manage to make it just as long as my 89 Batmobile so it is only 19 studs long.

Overal I am very pleased with how it came out, not only is it very small but it is also packed with little details and even has a detailed interior while still being spacious enough to comfotably fit a Batman minifigure sitting almost straight.

Here we have the Batman standing next to the Batwing, as you can see it is pretty close to minifigure scale.

The rear was quite a tricky part to get right since it has so many small details but overal I feel that I did a pretty good job.

Note; I also added the little fins underneath the batwing.

Batman can easily fit inside the cockpit as you can see, I even gave him a targeting computer so that he can easily miss the Joker when shooting at him.

A bit of posing around...

As you can see I even went so far as to add the little lights underneath the Batwing.

As you can see both vehicles are pretty much the same length with the batwing being obviously wider.

And ofcourse it does look like a bat from above :)

One final shot of my Keaton collection so far, still 1 Bat vehicle left to make...

Well that was it for me, I hope that you enjoyed looking at these images as much as I did building them. Feedback of any kind is always greatly appreciated. Until next time :)

This is really cool. I'm also a big fan of the Keaton films, and you did a very good job with the Batwing (which was especially cool in '89).
