The time has come...! You saw him in the last Contenders, and now you'll see him in full! Soon after I unveiled the previous version, I made a promise to revamp this character into a more appealing form- and now, finally, the promise has been answered!
About this creation
“The era of your petty kind withholding this onyx treasure is drawing to a close. The era of the flesh must die- the age of the soul is long overdue…!”
-Aroxion ‘to Takathorax’, The Contenders #44

Aroxion:
Makuta Aroxion was the tyrant of Racta Magna, the leader of the Sombrak and, in his second life, one of the four Shadebringers. He possessed all of a Makuta’s entitled abilities, in addition to a power over flame as a Shadebringer, only accentuated when he became the mighty Voidbringer. In his first life, Aroxion was avaricious and ambitious, willing to sacrifice all but himself for power; After dying once however, Aroxion found a newer, ‘nobler’ agenda; to smother all in a deep void, bringing the world to a twisted sense of ‘peace’.

Aroxion using his Shadebringer flame. (Contenders #47)

Aroxion was one of the many Makuta created by Mata Nui and placed under the command of Miserix. In the beginning he was weak and pitiful, constantly harangued by the other Makuta, imbued with bitterness and paranoia; this is most evident with the betrayal of his Toa Hagah Team, giving them to his ally, Makuta Astrok, for mutation. He was a devout admirer of Teridax and thus was modelled in his image, even going as far as to forge his own Kanohi Kraahkan. As expected, he was one of the first to side with Teridax during the mutiny against Miserix; this toadying only drew more derision from the other Makuta, who proceeded to chase him out of the Matoran Universe, to prevent him from securing any kind of position in the brotherhood.

Aroxion’s original form. (Hunt for “God” #18)

He ran to the planet Racta Magna, followed by Astrok and five others, who together formed the Makuta Sombrak, led by Aroxion. They attempted to conquer the planet but were contended by its protectors, the Toa Racta. This culminated in a long war dubbed the ‘Days of Shadowed Magna’, one which only ended with Aroxion’s defeat at the hand of a Toa named Takathorax. The Sombrak would continue their attempts to seize power over the planet, going as far as to challenge the godly Thanatos; seeking to usurp him. Aroxion became so desperate that he slew Astrok, who at this point was the Sombrak lieutenant, and purloined her power for the fight. Though defeated, the Makuta survived, using Astrok’s recycled energy to create his son and heir, the Makuta known as Reshak.

The Toa Racta facing Aroxion. (Dark Epitaph)

Reshak would follow his father into one last battle: predicting the end to an old conflict, Aroxion and the Sombrak orchestrated one big siege on Racta Major, the city of the Matoran. While the others died in battle, Aroxion snuck past the gates and took control from within; it took the combined efforts of the Toa and their allies to finally kill the old Tyrant. In death, Aroxion became fascinated in the spiritual freedom that the void provided; untethered by form, his mind expanded to new plains of thought. However, years later, Aroxion was resurrected by a faux Toa named Shadonax, and their first action together was to defeat the Toa and conquer an unsuspecting Racta Major. Astrok was also resurrected, who after initial tensions Aroxion realigned with.

The Makuta in his resurrected form. (Contenders #37)

To punctuate this new rule, Aroxion blocked out the sun, casting the world into darkness and drawing other villains to the city. Shadonax was satisfied, yet Aroxion craved a deeper darkness- one that blotted out physical form and let the mind run free. He kept these thoughts to himself for a time, though he eventually pitched his idea to Shadonax, only to be casually dismissed; a severe tension was formed between them, one which culminated when Aroxion dethroned Shadonax and took his place as ruler of Racta Magna. With this new status, Aroxion began to plot this conceptual ‘void’: he realised that he hadn’t the power to created it, and so would have to ascend to a higher form- he spied his opportunity to do so when the Champions of Day attacked.

Usurping Shadonax’s power. (Contenders #43)

The Champions of Day, an assembly of Racta Magnans looking to dethrone the Shadebringers, also included Thanatos, one of Aroxion’s rivals. The Shadebringers set out to face these attackers, though they were overwhelmed as the Champions entered the city. As their empire crumbled, Aroxion absorbed the collective power of Thanatos, the Toa and Astrok, who respectively tried to kill him; this hoarding of power caused Aroxion to transform into a monstrous beast known as the Voidbringer. The crazed Aroxion finally managed to cast the planet into a deep void, though oblivion was forestalled by a new challenger, the resurrected ghost of Toa Takathorax, the one who had defeated him in the Days of Shadowed Magna.

Aroxion the Voidbringer. (Contenders #48)

The ghost of Takathorax seeped into Aroxion’s body, converting all his power into light energy and releasing it all in one big discharge; the Makuta’s shadow was undone, yet both beings were destroyed in the process.

Ta daa! *Waves Jazz hands*
I didn't want to do a plain old upgrade with this guy, with just a couple of structural updates and aesthetic tweaks; instead I wanted to go full on, completely re-imagining this emmuh-effuh, Umarak the Destroyer style!

The back. I'm really happy with how he turned out: he looks proper formidable, and despite his size he's actually quite stable.

the only real problem is that he isn't very poseable, as the legs kind of need to be fully upright to keep the centre of gravity, which makes it kinda tricky to do dynamic poses, which will naturally make future action scenes in Contenders really tricky to pull off.

In that respect, he's kinda like the antithesis of Aroxion the Shadebringer, in the fact that he was surprisingly poseable but not very pretty- this one's surprisingly pretty and not very poseable... but that's my just my opinion; feel free to share differing thoughts in the comments! ;D

Don't normally do this, but I decided to travel back in time and line him up with his previous version, to show you how drastically he's changed, while also belying the elements that have carried over!

Uuuuh... so who's gonna break the news to him? :O

Side by side of Thanatos, who has just been superseded as the tallest MOC in my collection!

The Shadebringers together, though at this point in the story they're pretty much disbanded now-

-though even still, do the Contenders have the strength to stand up to the Voidbringer?

Taunting the remnants of his old enemy, the relics of Takathorax...!

"The world spirals weightily towards its end... all that we know collapses around us... we've lost all there is to lose... so why not embrace the void?"

Quoting Werewolff . Well...this beast is awesome. Some seriously impressive work for the scale! He looks big, demonic and ready to crush any puny Toa that stand in his way! Nice! -P.S. This guy's encouraged me to read through your Contenders narrative...though I may be a while!

Quoting Wondering Person Perfect. Unlike his previous form, he has no overtly blocky parts that mar his form. He has a beautifully balanced color scheme, and deserves a 5 star rating completely. 10/10. Also,I demand hand how to, because those hands are frigging awesome
Thanks friend- glad you prefer this over the previous form! Well, I'll see what I can do with a how-to, though I don't really like doing 'em, and one for this would be quite long, given how big this guy is- but I might do a how-to for the hand design, which is actually rather simple.

Quoting Dark Aeon So much better than the last version. As for Center of mass, maybe you could build a giant tail as a counterbalance? Or maybe some other counterweight... Alternatively, you could build a discrete stand for whenever he's off balance, or maybe even tie a string from his back to something in the room.
Thanks Aeon! Yeah, I could potentially do that- the specific scene I have in mind will allow me to implement certain 'tricks' to make him look off balance, and that is definitely one way I could do it- though I fear he'd be too heavy for any kind of technic-built stand, especially given that it would have to be a discrete one. But yes, I'll definitely bear that in mind! :D

Quoting Chouju X Wicked! The forearms remind me of the old Ultimate Doom set, with the claws and blade and stuff.
Thanks Chouju! Haha, yeah, that wasn't actually intentional, but I can see why you'd make that comparison- it's very similar in an archetypal sense to Ultimate Dume- it's the more super-powered, demonic version of a Makuta type villain.
