MOCer Cup Round 2 - Diving Near The Reef
MOCer Cup Round 2: Memories of the Ocean Build a MOC that depicts a scene of beachside beauty or an intriguing creature/shell. We’re looking for beauty and creativity with colors, shapes and vivid details that will make us miss our past vacations!
About this creation
My entry to round 2 of The MOCer Cup in The MOCer Games - Summer 2017 .
My opponent Connor R. Good luck to him!

Total view...

Another perspective...

Should have sharp leaves... ;)

The crab, hungry for a snack...

Two joker- fishes lookin' what's going on...

A big sea anemone successful in hunting, poor little fish. It's companions take to their fins...

A small coral, doesn't seem to feel cold. I wonder why...?

Another white coral and two barnacles...

My favorite animal here: a seahorse...

...is an older idea but never posted...

...now rebuilt for this MOC...

Some better pics here... .

Enjoy and have FUN!

Quoting Black_Wind 8319 Spectacular! I love the various ways you made the coral and seaweed, I've never been quite able to get it right.
That's just my imagination, and if the parts are in store... ;) Thanks a lot, Black!

Thanks a lot, Ben! Tried to make this as lifelike as it was able in the short time... ;)

Quoting Henrik Jensen Wow! What an amazing creativity. To have an idea that you want to build a coral reef is easy, but doing it is something completely different, but you did it, in the most wonderful way, excellent!
Thanks so much, my friend! Glad you feel well with this "snapshot" of a moment near a reef. I was on Corsica over 30 years ago snorkeling in the bay of Ajacio: Just as I realized the octopus, I saw a big cloud left in the water... So this is a moment of 1/10s sec in bricks... ;)

Quoting C Stucky Well, this has got to be one of the hardest decisions that I have made as a judge. However, all those different parts usage and the larger scale of your build won me over. I must say, your work always amazes me with the style and way in which you use parts. Great job!
Thanks a lot, C Stucky! Glad you feel well with this!

Quoting City Creator Both of you used some fascinating techniques, but Oliver's build better captures the "details that will make us miss our past vacations" part of the category, so he won my vote.

Quoting Builder Allan Wow, beautiful! I agree with justin, if this was in a fish tank no one would notice it was LEGO. As always with you, excellent use of pieces. The crab, anemone, striped fish and sea horse all stand out. Brilliant work Oliver :-)
Glad you feel so well with my build, Allan! Thanks much! :)

Quoting Jeremy McCreary Stunning, just stunning, my friend! If the judges were "looking for beauty and creativity with colors, shapes and vivid details that will make us miss our past vacations", I'd say you gave it to them in spades! I love the ocean even more than my Colorado Rockies, and you're definitely making me itch to go back. (In fact, that's exactly where I'll be in 3 weeks. Hooray!)
Great vaccations to you, my good friend! Btw.: thanks much for your very kind comment! ;) I gave it to them, but "the gusto" is variating! But I'm lookin' for another round to go here...

Quoting Justin Li Ok, first off, phenomenal builds from both of you! It's awesome seeing you guys face off in this category given your very different building styles. I also appreciated both of your usages of mini fig parts, Oliver with the arm on the crab and Connor with the leg on the turtle. Oliver: I love the colorful, playful energy of your build. You could drop this build in a fish tank and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Connor: that turtle is ace! Ive never seen a leg used better. I love the clean, stark lines of your build, and the simple color blocking. It's got a bit more gritty, serious feel that I really like. In the end, this was a very, very close match. I just slightly preferred the more nostalgic, dreamlike landscape of Olivers build, so my vote will go to him on the slightest of margins. Awesome job to both of you, and good luck with the other judges!
Thanks Justin! Most of the people in this contest build in Minifig scale and with them, so there are little "withdrawal symptoms", maybe, lookin' at pure brickbuilds as I prefer to build in most times... ;)

Quoting TMNS 5097 Nice work! I'm glad I'm not going against you! I love all of the colors, and that seahorse is awesome! The only thing is that it's a little crowded, but that's how some parts of the sea are, so I guess it works. ;) Good luck!
Thanks TMNS! But we're all together, so I don't feel to go "against" s.o., it's a match and votes are also an individual matter of taste... So thanks much!

Quoting MCLegoboy ! This is a very nice build, your use of pieces is incredible; I think my favorite is the use of the arctic hoods, but as a composition, it's a little hard to focus in on any one thing. To some degree, that's actually good because it mimics nature as not always being perfect for a photograph, but then as a sculpture, it's a little too much for a small space, and maybe the textures are too similar between the vegetation and the animals. I couldn't find an easy spot to focus in on how beautiful the crab or the seahorse was. I love the more hidden stuff of course, like those hoods, I'm just a little conflicted with what's going on here.
I just tried to show reality, and that seems chaotic for human eyes. I reality there are just very short moments to realize what's going on and focus it, so it's a matter of taste to like this scenario or not. I'm so sorry that you're felt conflicted with what's going on here, MCLegoboy... ;)

Quoting Connor R. Very cool Oliver! It seems a bit chaotic at first but I love all the detail of the sea creatures :) mine should be up pretty soon, best of luck.
It's an organized chaos at the reef, Connor! For us humans it seems as it's been so, and you eyes don't know where to look first, it's flashing... ;) But it's well organized for those who live there! Thanks Connor! I'm late here, but better in time at your built to comment... ;)
