I just wanted to see what this would look like. The Saladin class is unlikely to have survived to the 2270s, and with the advent of the Miranda class with its swappable mission packages there would be no need to refit any old destroyers. Still...
One big drawback of the Saladin is its lack of auxiliary craft. Some fans have added different kinds of bays in their versions but they all feel shoehorned in to me.
Another serious problem in this refit version is the torpedo bay placement. There is poor line of sight with the nacelle jutting in front, and even though the torpedoes are guided it looks cramped.
On the other hand, it is pretty cool!
One neat little change is the symmetry of the nacelle, which now has an intercooler fin and RCS thruster on both sides. It also has the same warp field emitter on each side, instead of different inboard and outboard grilles.
Starfleet is not done with kitbashing, though, as we see later in the Sydney, the Constellation, the Shelley, and the Yaeger classes. LLAP!
