Modern Architecture Series Residence 2
Welcome to the second build of my Modern Architecture Series!
About this creation
This is definitely a vast improvement from my first residence. Not only is the house itself a much more beautiful design, taking its roots from a MineCraft design I saw online, but it's placed on an intricate and beautiful mountain landscape. This build took two days, and I only just managed to finish it this weekend before school! I hope you enjoy!
(Also, sorry about the slightly grainy quality of the first few images; not sure what the image uploader did to them... :/ )

The waterfall turned out a lot more realistic-looking than I intended...no regrets, though :D

Here's a gravel driveway.

Yes, it's this tree again...seems to fit very well into landscapes, and works great for adding a splash of color too!

The underside of the house, featuring the black elevator shaft, small windows and the support pillars.

Really proud of this pretty much seamless transition from studs-on-bottom (with which most of the house is built) to studs-on-side for the top of the black section of the house.

The back of the build. The white backside of the mountains is due to my running out of grey pieces :/

The landscape without the house.

Super proud of this rockwork!

This is how I did the transition from SNOT to SOT for the support pillars.

Hope you enjoyed your visit, and as always, ratings, comments and ESPECIALLY constructive criticism are welcome!

Quoting Scott Bertaut Not usually one for buildings, micro scale or otherwise, so it takes something quite special to catch my eye. I really like this, the landscaping is impressive, and I agree that waterfall is quite nice, the building itself is just incredible though. Actually reminds me a bit of the house in the climax of North by Northwest. Anyway, awesome job on this!
Thank you so much for these compliments, and it gives me that sort of warm and happy feeling to know that I've managed to catch your eye!

Quoting James Y. I have to agree that this carries a very Frank Lloyd Wright feel, specifically his famous "Falling Water" design, though you've gone more austere in some ways with the very 60's white post modern look. It's nicely done and well balanced, and I don't hold it against you that you used a few clone bricks. At some point or another many of us have to finish builds. It's only been in the last 3 years that I've managed to weed them back out of my own collection finally. Congrats on getting blogged.
Thank you for all the kind words, James! Cheers!

Quoting Yay Paul I love modern architecture so this is awesome. My favorite part though is how you've captured the water movement. That could easily have been overlooked, but really helps the whole thing pop!
Thank you! I did actually realize that it would be a pretty much essential piece of the build, so it was one of the first things to be built - I ran completely out of trans-blue 1x1s too. If you look closely you can spot a few trans-green pieces in the water. Whoops! :D Thank you for the kind comment!

Quoting Oliver Becker Evertime it's very nice to see a new talent on MP, especially s.o. like you doing your own fine stuff, Minh-Kha! Solutions to get a MOC finished are so many with the bricks, but these are the secrets to discover... Running out of parts is the best thing for a builders creativity, I believe! ;) Keep up your fine work! :)

Quoting Marco. qm About the background I use this (http://www.moc-pages.com/image_zoom.php?mocid=&id=/user_images/121939/14797478301) and daylight, then edit it with GIMP2. It's fairly improvised but does the job quite well.

Quoting Minh-Kha N. Yeah, I must say that the design is very reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright as well...as for the 2 by 6 slopes...well, I'm a little ashamed to admit this, but they're actually pieces from Lego clone brand Kre-o. They came from the USS Missouri Battleship kit a relative got me for Christmas, and I felt like throwing out the pieces was so inappreciative and a waste...I was a little reluctant to use them at first, since I'm a purist at heart, but I figured that I could make an exception this time as they're such a great addition to the rockwork, as you noticed. Thanks for all the kind words! Cheers, Minh-Kha
No! Say it isn't so! I'm just going to have to change my rating to a 1/5 now. Of course, I am only kidding, they do look really good, and I too am a purist at heart, but there are always exceptions. As someone with an Art Degree, aesthetics also play a big factor and this build looks too good to get rid of those gentler slopes.

Quoting MCLegoboy ! Yes, Modern indeed. Very 60s, very Frank Lloyd Wright, very perpendicular. I also have to say that I love your landscape. I've never seen the 2x6 slopes before in person, but part of my thinks I have seen them before online. They are used for garages and driveways in old LEGO houses, yes? Such an interesting piece many would love to have and it is used multiple times for the rockwork, and it looks so perfect and natural. Great build.
