Out in the middle of nowhere on a desert world, a bustling city rises from the sands.
About this creation
The Fourth Annual Eight Piece Building Challenge has me confused because it's going strictly on points in three rounds and not eliminating people which is what I thought it was going to do. Luckily, I get to try again to get a better score than my Round One Entry of 8/20 which everyone could have seen before a private judging group was made. I still don't get how any of that happened, but here we are. I should probably shut up now before they dock even more points because I have a feeling I've been a thorn in the judges' sides, more so Lo than James.
So yeah, it's a science fiction city in the middle of nowhere.
It's one of those non-builds, where everything is just placed together, nothing is securely attached outside of the LEGO Movie gun and the Harpoon, a thing I've been wanting to use forever. And the 1x4 tile is more crucial than you might think.
Here are the eight pieces, just a better picture than that one before.

You chose just the right viewing angle. It looks great, from that one angle. I suppose that is exactly how the SCI-FI cities you are imitating were made. I can't figure out whether you should be commended or dismissed for being as cheap as source material.
And also, just you expressing your thoughts doesn't mean points will be removed. The points system is based off of the build, not the person's character. Please, don't feel this way. It's making me feel disappointed in my group, which was founded 4 years ago.
I am sorry that you do not think that the challenge has been as organized this year. I have had some crazy stuff going on, and this year I only got 1 judge. Maybe if I had more it could be more organized, but I am pretty much the ONLY one managing this group, and I am under a lot of pressure.

Very cool! Are non-builds allowed though?
I DON'T KNOW! The rules and overall structure of this competition have been vague, ill-voiced, and laissez-faire. We had the judges share all the scores because one of them couldn't make a private group. We've had incorrect answers to questions. The deadline for Round 2 was listed in the results for Round 1 meaning a number of us didn't even realize Round 2 had begun because Round 2 was never officially announced in a new topic as would be really standard in a contest. This whole thing is making me go crazy, and I don't have high hopes that this entry will actually receive too high a score if at all, and I kind of don't care if it does. This eight piece thing has been done three times before, so the fourth year should be a lot better handled than I think it has been.
