Here are a few exercises in making catapults, some of which store energy in a rubber band.
About this creation

Push down on the half spacer in front to fire. You can change the angle of the elbow and the thickness of the bushing around the front axle to change the firing angle.

A sled firing catapult. Put a technic axle in the hole and pull back the sled to ready it. The trigger mechanism is operated by the red button.

A ballista. It is striker fired. When the trigger sear is lifted from the yellow bar, it accelerates forward. The technic pin strikes the rear of your ammunition, propelling it forward.

This is a basic catapult that anyone can build. The ammunition goes in the hole in the arm. Pull back on the exposed axle and release to fire.

If you want more detailed photos of any of these, ask in the comments below.

Clever and fun little mechanical builds, JWG! Especially like the ballista. There used to be more of an interest in mechanical things around here, but now it's all but gone.
