A Tribute to LEGO Greebling
About this creation

I have always loved builds with greebling done in LEGO. Whether Mecha builds, Sci-Fi spaceships, Hangars, or whatever, I have always loved the look and appearance of greebling. There are an infinite amount of techniques and styles, and I tried to use a good variety of such styles in this build. Video below gives an idea of how it was done and more details. A rather large project. I estimate around 8,000 pieces.

Details:

The whole build is modular. Comprised of a 4x4x6 (LxWxH) matrix of combined cubes (12x12 cubes in Technic bricks) in a pattern that folds onto itself. The two vertical columns obviously deviated from the cubes, but the idea is the same; to create a build in modular form.

Thanks All! Yea.. overall just a fun project. Little different than what I usually do.

When simple tiles just won’t do, greebling to save the day! Great job on some clever design techniques, especially the recessed blue backlit greeble and the use of the Death Star ornament!

Nowadays, I have to be judicious about what I keep available for display. This may be one that I keep for a while.
Quoting Didier B Excellent! Very good greebling. The result is a real decorative sculpture.

Great comment, something that I think most people overlook. The reciprocating shape that folds on itself needed to be completely rigid so as to not bend or warp. Especially given the build is like 8,000 pieces and heavy. Indeed, a little engineering was needed to come up with a modular, yet rigid solution.
Quoting Jeremy McCreary You've clearly become a master greebler, my friend, but the engineer in me likes the structure and overall geometry even more. The clever modular solution would lend itself well to an Escher-style MOC.

Honestly, Garry's creations was one of the first MOCs I noticed when I signed up on this site years ago. One of the original Master Greeblers...
Quoting Gabor Pauler Whao! With this MOC, you are closing up all time classics of Lego greebles (eg. Garry King). In my MOCs, I fight against greebles desperately, trying to cover gearing, worm gears, linear actuators, springs, motors, etc. with streamlined hull plating

Light effects turn out nice. For some reason, they are also always relaxing and fun for me to install.
Quoting Oliver Becker That's wonderful smart SciFi, Nirds! Love the light- effects!

Hmmm, a thoroughly greebled LEGO spinning top would be an aerodynamic disaster, but spin time isn't everything, and it would definitely be a crowd-pleaser at LEGO shows. On it...
