This is my redesign of the Mclaren P1 Speed Champions set into the all new Mclaren P2.
About this creation
The P1 set is probably the worst of the initial batch of Speed Champions cars.
It relies totally on stickers to make it look kinda like a P1, if you are squinting at it in a dark room during a total eclipse of the sun.
I have been lucky enough to see 3 real P1's close up out in the wild (not in car dealer show rooms), so I know what they look like.
My redesign centered around the theoretical Mclaren P2, a new front mid engined hyper car (entire engine is in front of the passenger compartment but behind the front axle).
I was inspired by the Cheetah race cars from the 1960's, with there minimal rear overhang past wheels and their long curvaceous hoods (bonnets to some of you outside the USA).
The P2 has the gas electric hybrid system located so all its weight is at the center of the car, resulting in perfect 50-50 front to rear weight distribution.
The car is covered with all the prerequisite scope, ducts, and air outlets that every hybrid hyper car needs for street cred (and also to keep temperatures down so it doesn't melt down while stuck in rush hour traffic).
The top view shows its narrow waste line compared to its flared fenders.
The aerodynamics package consists of a large front splitter and rear diffuser.
If you get the aerodynamics under the car right, you don't need any large GT3 racecar style wings for down force.
These are the few parts from the P1 set that were not used in the P2 build.
